i tend to hold everything up to the light. the light does wonderful things to the cloth and to us….looks like battenburg lace on that cloth.

I found a top (blouse) in Good Will made with tons of it, but sadly it was on rayon and I would have preferred cotton. I still have a bit of a problem using synthetic cloth too much as it seems sacreligious. Some of it is gorgeous though. I had this discussion with Jude, and a small amount (i.e. your motif on one of yours)is okay, but still haven’t ventured to large pieces. Do others feel like this? I think you, Grace, meentioned hesitation on synthetic before.

helen…i have a THING for old rayon. which i think would not be considered synthetic as it is made from plant material, but the objection comes into the process, though, which involves run off that is not good for the earth….
synthetics, no. can’t use them. they do not feel good.
my shopping style at the thrift shop has gotten some
comments, like ” what are you DOING?” because i slowly
cruize the isles just looking…for COLORs i am attracted
to, when i see something, i just touch it lightly…if its
cotton, linen, silk, can tell easily…the rayon is harder,
but sometimes i like it anyway.
anyone elses thoughts about this would be very interesting?

if i love a fabric and it’s synthetic, i do use it. i prefer the natural fabrics but sometimes you can’t tell. i guess you could test it, but i’m not fanatical about only using natural fabrics.
