guess what's here?

25

no, not her.  i just wanted to put this pic here.   i'll find out later sometime, why.  my granddaughter, Alyssia.  Now 24, the mother of a 3 year old son.  how'd THAT happen…?….

IMG_5889f

this is what's here.  UPS woman, yelling at the Goats, sticking the box through the slat in the fence and whirring off in a puff of dust.  That was quick.  Nice cover photo.  and it might not be at all what i hope it is.  but what really caught me, really, was how badly i thought Terry Gross faltered with the interview.  so many things she could have asked, but seemed instead to beat around the bush so to speak.  and i thought, something here makes her uneasy.  and this was good, to me.

i'm a fast reader, especially with my still virus damaged brain,  i'll be done with it a day or two.  i ordinarily take hardbound books that i buy to the library for their shelves.  but…instantly thought:  If it's really good, why not send it Around?  to Us?  we could all write in the margins, put sticky notes, scraps of photos from magazines that relate.  ?????  whatever…………

be back later.  i am stitching the Jellyfish Bride

IMG_5898f

not a lot more needed…  and while stitching, i thought how it might be that jellyfish marry themselves….??

IMG_5894f

and look what she's wearing today…maybe i am marrying myself today too….funny what a good bout of Flu can do…..

Gosh, that was fast I felt the same way about that interview & will be interested to hear what you think (I’m fourth in the reserve queue at our local library) & re finding time for making art… it’s a funny thing, I ask myself why I waste so much time every day because really what else would I rather be doing than drawing or stitching? but even with all the time & space in the world we humans are such funny things and will find other things to do… like this morning it’s quite chilly & I need to put the heater on but to do that I have to tidy up all the floaty feathery burnable bits and pieces that could catch fire before I can sit down and draw and instead I am writing about it here rather than spending that short hour getting it together… but I have learned to love this procrastination phase, it keeps the working space a bit more civilized and I get to find out where all those lost things are!

I think there should be a blog somewhere that collects how creative people spend time avoiding creating.
Terri drives me crazy sometimes, she often seems to ask questions off a sheet rather than in response to what her guest has just said.
And yes, I’ll take the book next after you’ve scribbled your thoughts and then pass it along with my decorations, if someone else is interested. Cool idea. Round robining the The Woman Upstairs…

I haven’t heard the interview but I just heard today that our little neighborhood reading group mentioned reading this next – for the same reason it sounds. I take it as a sign that it has just shown up at your place – I think I should read it.

Yes, you sound better–like Grace again. Much relief. At first I thought I’d like to read this after reading the transcript… but then in thinking more–maybe not. It sounded kind of stalker-ish and fueled by an anger I wasn’t sure I wanted to sit with. (I am a very s-l-o-w reader…) So I am happy you are going first. And then by your reaction I’ll know if I should.

What a glorious post…that photograph-her smile-her just absolutely there self…and, the BOOK and sharing it (though I won’t put myself in the line because of my eyes difficiencies, but will search for the audio version to listen to)…I got so interested in it I read her bio on Wiki, then found this: The Center for Fiction uploaded a discussion from May 2, 7pm: Widely acclaimed author Claire Messud read from and discussed her latest novel …
    Part one http://youtu.be/INr2rPQKx_Y
    Part Two http://youtu.be/t1UgSn7eb4U
Wonderful to hear her voice and just everything she read from it and what she says in response to questions.
Also, your wonderful jelly fish bride, and your self, almost your self again, and marrying her! GLORIOUS!

ok. put me on the list. but i think, since i hardly ever read, well, i think mostly, readers have opinions based on what else they have read before. we use our experience that way. anyway, it will be a struggle, and i am sure my reaction will be interesting. ok then.

I’ve been so deep into Carolyn Myss, and Jamie Sams, and soon, Lissa Rankin, this book has escaped me. Is there background you could give? I know I can look it up on Amazon and see what “they” say. I’d like your input, your perspective.
Glad you’re feeling better. Sick sucks.
And with that, I must get ready to go to work.

I havent heard about this book either and would love to know more, and like, who is this Terri of whom you speak ?( I am reading Joseph Anton , Rushdie’s book about living under the fatwa all those years, and my eyes are opened as to who stood up for freedom of speech (lots of Americans ) and who did not. Anywho,so glad to hear you are feeling better Grace, sometimes we need these breaks and if not take them, the body does it for us…another book…”When the Body says No” Gabor Matte
