it,  he,  i think,  strolled up.  Slow.  one step,  one step.  I love how they go…one step,  pause,  one step.  This is from the window here at the table.   Puppy watched.  for a LONG time,  just watching as he came slowly.  Double click to see him near the meditation swing.

he continued.  That same measured pace.   She got up and  began to stalk,  measuring her pace to his.  Step by step.  She followed him down all along through the old Buck Forest to the far gate where he flew up onto that gate.

There is a band of them.  I have pics from last week.  The male is magnificant with his display,  like really,  magnificant.  There are 7 females.  I think this is a juvenile male,  exiled.  I've seen him 3 times now.  Alone.

Puppy is very brave, that’s a big bird! a wild turkey? do they make mounds for their nests like the native brush turkeys do here in the Land down Under?

Ah, I believe this “wild “turkey is not native to California. (the Rio Grande sub-species). They can definately become invasive pushing out native critters and plants, and what they can do to gardens is significant.
They were introduced as a sport bird by Fish and Game.
They are a striking site, so large and strong. We have been dealing with them for several years now, argh.

There is something about large birds that makes my heart happy. I always love to see Rio Grande turkeys (which are natives in our Texas Hill Country), roadrunners, caracaras, blue herons, and pelicans … not to mention hawks and eagles of all sorts … and crows and ravens … hmmmm, guess I could have just said “all large birds” since even the turkey buzzards are welcome guests, good as they are at recycling

when i read your words a BELL RANG!!!! Clearing the deep
grasses, i came to a place that was flattened, “nested” and i wondered if it was Turkey Boy. And it never occured to me that they might be interested in the garden, but when
i read your words, that bell…..
the squash seeds i’d planted….somehow dug out, disturbed,
and i couldn’t figure it out…Tay would have made more of a mess. Puppy too, i thought. But this….the scratch of a
    Turkey, YES….i think so.
    Well….oh, eeeeeee
