there's no date on this.   I don't know when i drew it.  i remember it was a time of not knowing what to say.

Caroline.    Facial recognition,  Goats.  Markings.   She passes these to kids.   The most perfectly,  to Jude's Magic who i gave to the young woman in New Mexico because i believed in her and then she left for somewhere,  i think Maine and took the goats,  Jude's Magic and the little buck i bought her and was there a while and then left them behind and returned to N Mex.  Above drawing refers to times like that.   i don't even want to say it,   because we were so WRONG a while ago,  but it does look like Caroline will kid.   Probably next wednesday.  We get totally READY this weekend.   Yesterday it was 72.   Tomorrow high in the 50's,  RAIN for the next 5 days which is NEEDED.   There was no measurable precipitation in the month of February,  a Rain Month.

a few days ago i  "decided"  to not make any more Cloths because there's nothing to do with them.   But…as i am,  as it goes,  it's pretty much what i think of.   Making Cloths.   Today i washed and hung these pieces on the line in the WIND,  the same  WIND that will bring the Rain,  in that Wind to maybe be ground for

small ones.

maybe it's ok to make small ones.   ?

Peggy called today.   Peggy McGrail who sold everything and got herself a Van and set Out.   Has lived in the desert.   a part of the  Bob Wells Cheap RV Living tribe.   I know her like i would know a sister.   I am so PROUD of her.   She may be driving up the California Coast.   We talk.  if it works,  she will stop here.   The Virus maybe and maybe not will factor in.  Even with this.

well here I am on the east coast at 1:13 a.m. – still awake because my body’s vibrating from all the shifts in just this one day. The virus situation is so real for us now. Have spent the evening TOTALLY re-doing my seed lists having first faced the fact that even our planned CSA involvement at a local friend’s farm may prove impossible.
for about five minutes this felt like too much to imagine and problem solve effectively but then my gardener’s brain took the wheel. Just focused on what I know grows and keeps well for us. How it might be to put Bea’s upgrading one’s self-sustainability skill set advice into practice in this way. Knowing it’s just the beginning of how we always planned to live until the year I got too sick and that turned into four or five years of supporting local farmers instead. Still we know how to do all this stuff and with diligent commitment can feed ourselves.
need to go down in the basement and dig out my copy of Putting Food By …also start paying attention when Jim gets to talking about hydro-electricity etc.

Caroline is beautiful. The black is stunning. When you post pictures like that I find myself drawing the cursor along the grain of her fur. Like petting her. And then I decide I must be crazy and stop – after I call her a pretty goat.

To know that in the midst of this pandemic, life is coming to the Hill is a joy to the heart…as is the thought that Peggy may be coming and how I hope this comes to pass, that you two sisters meet face to face. Can see her van next to your home, both of you sitting on some of the oak stumps, by a fire pit, drinking coffee/tea, laughing, talking through the night…that too is life affirming.
Cloth, well I think it is part of your DNA and while I know space is limited, putting your fingers to needle and thread and cloth is one of your life pulses…what about making little cloths and affixing them to paper or simply to binding them all together, cloth booklets, a library of your cloth stories…

Reading about California’s rain (and possible snow in the Sierras this weekend) counted as some of the only good news to cross my screen in the last 24 hours.
