over at the plastic table.   This mat.  the plastic table which is white.   over  there,  just up the hill,  the sprinkler thing.

i'd taken her booster seat over there a while back,  knowing we'd hook up the water.  Planned to scrub it so it can be let go of…via Alyssia on buy sell trade exchange.   But

she has feelings about it…likes it.  sits down and buckles herSelf in and plays.  it will be 104 on Friday.

Alyssia went to Chico to have blood drawn…the new Naturopath  and while she was there did some of the weekly grocery shopping at Trader Joe's.   there were feelings about that….but she went.   What she found was 100% compliance with masks and distancing.   100%.  and saw a few people turned away for no mask.    On the way back,  she stopped at Raley's,  the bougie grocery here in Oroville,   store that is the option of Walmart,  store i used to frequent… and went in because she'd forgotten to get me ginger root.   she said maybe 5% masks.   5%.   this….with the govenor of CA calling for complete masking for the state in the last couple days.   This.  oroville.   the upscale grocery.   5%.   We are an interesting people,  us amerikans.

am sensing a theme – perhaps stretching from sea to shining sea. the upscale grocery in the next town here has been the scene of ongoing social contentiousness, some angry handmade posters staple gunned to trees, and loud decibel hissy fits about personal civil rights being infringed. Tyranny!!! Injustice! Am concluding there are truly people without the organic ability to get on with their lives and wear a mask at the same time.

This mask thing is bringing the nature of the human dilemma to light.
I have so many stories I am too tired to tell.
It’s way too hot here, not as hot as there but, whew. I’m using the hose just like that.

The flip side: New Mexico’s governor had 8,000 cloth masks made to give to all who requested them, one per person. White cotton masks, made well according to Dept of Health specs. R had to have some blood work done at a local hospital/lab, was wearing his white cloth mask. When he got inside, was told to put on their disposable mask, even though he was wearing the cloth mask,no explanation given. R told them where he got his mask and pressed the point. Finally he was told that they preferred that everyone wear their paper surgical masks. So even when you comply, things get complicated…

That picture is just the best..the pure joy on her face. Our governor just made face masks mandatory any time you aren’t alone (other than family) for ages 6 and up, 3-5 year old strongly recommended, not recommended for 2 and under. While we’ve all been wearing masks at work, I am not looking forward to the conversations this will bring up… Jude is right, so much is reflected in our attitude/beliefs about masks.

I actually love wearing my mask. Protecting others is the way I interpret the mask wearing.
We expect rain today. But even clouds are welcome. I am reminded of my childhood and the JOY of the hose and water!!!

What an incredible photograph. I’m mesmerized by those frozen droplets.
There is a definite trend at the grocery store here with time of day/day of week and masks. Early in the day week days there is much better compliance, weekends very little compliance.

Love the photo! I remember those days when you could hardly wait for the right temperature so we could run through the water.
The Trader Joe’s here is very strict as is Whole Foods. I stopped at Aldi today and everyone was wearing masks and staying 6 feet apart.
I just don’t understand the big deal about wearing a mask in an inside place.
Is it a pain to wear a mask-more annoying than anything as they can get hot especially when it’s hot! But when I think about having my health ruined for years, it’s not that big of a deal!

Emrie’s grown so much! She has a pretty and fun cooling off spot!
I rarely go out, but I needed new glasses. So yesterday I did errands that my DH does for me. I went to our go-to pet food store, Ben’s Barketplace. The patrons had masks on, but non of the business people did. I think I know them well enough to know that they are making a statement. I won’t be back, ever.
Husband said local BelAir (sister of Raley’s) FINALLY had 100% employees and patrons masked.
I have missed many days of your posts. I don’t know how that happened. I will go back.

it’s complicated. the cloth masks need to be washed
between uses or stuff just clings.
they need to ensure correct usage and they can’t know.
so to ask for use of the disposables.
There is still a lot of ignorance about how mask use is effective and is not.

it’s hard to know what to think…the Feed Store, where we frequent all the time for all animals here, Goat, Chicken, Dog Cat…they too…maskless. They are great people. But they choose to not comply. WHY??????????????
they interface, all day 6 days a week with customers from all over the county. Again, i would be so interested in
having a however long necessary conversation about
WHY? They know Alyssia…she’s always going through all their chicken enhancement items, asking lots of questions, spending lots of money…they like her. Why wouldn’t they comply for HER?

Well… this is the conversation that I’ve had numerous times. The consensus that I’ve reached from those that won’t wear masks or will only because they have to in order to keep their job is that they feel like their rights are being violated by being told that they have to wear a mask. They feel coronavirus is being overblown and that it’s just another flu we have to deal with. So far everyone in this camp that I’ve talked to can not imagine that their choosing to not wear a mask is violating the rights of someone who is concerned. The response is…”If you are worried stay home.” My response has been, “I don’t have to if you wear a mask.” It hasn’t even been possible to get to the question, “How can one person’s rights be more important than another?”
They will consider that there might be a problem if hospitals become overwhelmed, but for the most part they think we just need to get over it and that the vulnerable have always been vulnerable to anything and will continue to be so.
They will often pull out a study that says we are damaging our hearts and lungs by wearing masks because of lack of oxygen. Ant that this issue would be “for sure” while catching coronavirus is not.
Sorry to dump this if it is more that you wanted to know… It is an important conversation to have but it’s also like hitting your head against a brick wall sometimes.
The one thing I am very concerned about is speech development for children. Part of how children learn is seeing facial expressions, seeing lips move.

not sure if this is in any way relevant to what you’re experiencing there inside yourself but for me it’s rarely about my perception of a thing/place/person changing so much as perceptual shifts others have revealed which lead me to understanding I was only seeing what worked for me, what I wished to see, in the first place.
Then “all of a sudden” something of a group experiential nature (this I freely admit is often racial/toxic white fragility in nature) occurs that leaves me little choice but to look at some of the stuff I avoided recognizing any sooner.
In these times it seems very clear matters of literal life and death tend to polarize as much as they clarify. Especially now at the behest of the post-truth, anti-science, fact-free quadrant(s) of our society.
On my end we’ve been totally avoiding the really lovely casually friendly grocery up the road because of what it was like the day I went in (it seems about two centuries ago) after seeing Bea for the big wake-up call. Had gone in to get more liquid soap and a few extra containers of lysol wipes. Saw/overheard one of the managers excoriating a sub-manager for “looking worried and scared”. The focus of her dressing-down was on not losing customers rather than worker safety.
I thought I would not participate in that unwinding of humanity. Where they do NOT socially distance or wear masks, even though state mandated. J agreed.
This ongoing collective endangerment has also changed my impression of a couple of people I’d come to know and like enough to keep in touch by text during these times. The inner shift is based on their having had input in the official decision to have our little constellation of towns not report because of the ever-popular NOBODY CAN MAKE US DO ANYTHING WE ARE AMERICANS mentality.
it’s all quite a bit beyond unimpressive, as my son likes to say.

was super interested to read your child development concern. Am for all intents and purposes deaf in my right ear and always have been. I rely a lot on lip reading and have been struggling to “hear” properly without that mechanism available.
Now considering all those who are currently learning how to speak and listen. Am grateful to widen the frame and give the situation a much larger less personalized frame. Going to reach out to a specific friend who undoubtedly shares your concern level. If nothing else maybe talking together will ease her sense of carrying that burden within herself.
