005 this is my heavy duty zippered hooded sweatshirt.  i wear it in the mornings when i get up and start the fire.  i wear it in the evening when i again need to start the fire.  i wear it over a lighter weight zip hoodie.  which is over a long sleeve shirt over an undershirt.  this is January couture.  any January.

the cuff, both cuffs: wearing, worn.  Otherwise, perfect still.

i found it maybe 4 years ago at the thrift shop.

it's not on "the class pile", because i need it.  but inbetween early morning and evening, i can take it off and see what i can do.

speaking of old sweaters….oh lord. that sea of possibilities is
endless. i just got a flash of some kind of darning
type mending on my beloved old sweater that has a
single verticle red thread from the mid center hole to
the neckline. Whew. the sweater is an indigo [color].

Grace, i think your mind and mine are in the same “level” because I just took a navy-blue sweat shirt out and i want to convert it into a boro jacket, what do you think? this one would be something I can wear a lot in rainy Portland!!!!

i think Yes! i love my sweatshirts. i mean really love them.
they are the most perfect thing for my life here. i would do
    anything for my sweatshirts.
    so…lets DO it!
for me, this would be the closest to the traditional boro noragi
of japan. it is my workcoat. i need it.
i will still, i think work on the linen Travel Jacket. that is
    for my Spirit.
    so…yes. hey ho, herm xo

still have quarrels with my mother about wearing clothes like that. my son does too, making his elder brother utterly embarrassed to be seen with him.
the upside is that both my mother and my aunt keep on giving me their old clothes…you know what I do with those….
of course I have a zippered hooded sweatshirt, blue, stained, with the beginnings of holes.. favourite morning putontopofeverythingelsejustuntillImakethecoffee and then I find myself still wearing it in the evening..second skin. maybe in 20 years it will have holes next to the “hands in dyepots” (and wherever else) stains

i’m sure you sweatshirt gals ( i am most certainly one too ) will come up with wondrous changes to your beloved garments.
however—i just must say ,grace, how beautiful are the wearing/worn cuffs just as they are.
i have one that looks very much like yours & i’m forever getting my thumbs caught in the holes but i do love looking at its soft raggedyness.
will i get brave enough to change it?
    time will tell.

oh…it will have become so beautiful by then.
it’s ok..your kids are still young. it’s only till
they are in their 20’s when they start appreciating
the “uniqueness” of their mother. it will come.
second skin. yes. that’s what it is.

judy..well, i was not completely honest…there is one
more sweatshirt that is so so worn…like you describe,
but she is the one i sleep in. hood up. it’s cold
in here at night and i am warm with that hood.
there are other things to change. keep yours as is.

Grace, I’ll be watching on this one. I don’t like to clothes shop so I have lots that are on the verge of holes, many things from Gap about 15 years ago. Be sure to show us!

yes–there are plenty of other things to change . many have nothing to do with cloth.
    ah, life.

Oh you reminded me of something. This is from way back when…
    http://beecreative.typepad.com/bee_creative/2007/05/a_flat_sweatshi.html
I think I cut this up for something else. It wasn’t quite right, but cutting open the seams was a good idea (got it from a magazine).

Hey that’s pretty cool! It looks a bit grunge with the worn ends. Did you do those on purpose or was it from natural wear and tear?

i’d never thought of it as a bit grunge…changes my
    outlook.
it’s natural wear and tear….just doing life caused it.
    thanks for the new viewpoint…….
