002 ok.  these are the ones i am working on.  just in case.   Wind is picking up, temps are dropping.  high today is 12 degrees.  while it is true that this is really not significant in certain parts of the world, it is here.  this house is literally made of one outside wall of aluminum with a thin, as in 1/4", wood paneling of inside wall.  any insulation, (a 1967 model) has long fallen down.  the southwest wall moves with the Wind.  almost all the windows don't close completely…this probably due to having been moved around (mobile home) over the years.  i don't know it's history.  was made in Benton Harbor Michigan…?…

anyway, why i live in it is a long story that didn't seem to have a necessary meaning to what i am doing here on this blog, but in the last day or so, i am re-thinking that.  when Wind moves the wall, the electrical outlet also moves and i would assume, the electrical wires inside the wall.  this is not good.  how things often burn up around here.  so, while i am sewing, i am thinking.

i can't remember the order i put the pics in, but the first three have changes since last posted.  i understand now what is happening with the sleeveheartnet and have made some changes there, mostly having taken out all that stitching on the lower part that i liked a lot, but turned out to not have any relevance to the cloth as a whole.  the "egyptian one" as Catherine saw it has from the beginning wanted that strip of Sun/moon that is the work of Deb Lacativa.  it WILL go on, how i am not sure yet.  and the "dark one" has the addition of some of Glennis' gauze at the top.  All three of these, i am just "watching" at the moment.  none are at all finished.

the 4th, OH the fourth.  this is the "loom" weaving that is the latest segment in Jude's Contemporary Woven Boro class.  the warp pieces tied in the back of a bread basket, and scraps woven in, stitched as in basted and then the warp strips untied and cut or not.

the house has been crazy anyway, the three little dogs huddled in a wad on the futon couch, blankets, bedspreads, towels, etc to include anything, smushed over curtain rods and into window ledges.  plastic grocery bags stuffed into floor cracks, water dribbling from all faucets in an effort to keep the pipes from bursting, wood stacked half way to the door and throughout it all the electricity on and off.    BUT in the midst of all that, there has been a whirlwind of excitemet with this finger weaving.  everywhere are torn strips of cloth that i have never before been able to use and now will shine.  in candle light, i wove strips in and then pulled them out, wove others, put some back, took some away; all the while having this incredible tactile uhhhh, intimate experience of the cloth, the makeshift loom, my fingers, color, texture, thread.  i cannot find words yet for it but it is extremely different to  me from the other weaving i have learned from Jude's classes.  So it has captured me.  and if the electricity stays up, i will try to write more later.

thank you EVERYONE for wishing me well these two days…don't stop till Friday when things will return toward "normal".  or, the understanding that Climate Change does not have a normal.

all looks good here. all seems related somehow. and here… not exactly the same but a hole in the roof which now holds 24″ of snow/ice and hoping it doesn’t collapse because it is over the studio. and lots of finger weaving going on too. stay safe, keep weaving, and see ya later.

3rd photo with Deb’s sun/moon is echoing the story of this unbelievable climate. And then I feel the amazing velvet cloth in your loom photo: that luscious velvety orange red glowing cloth is radiating such heat; looks also like one of Deb L’s cloths: Before doing anything with this cloth, I would first drape it on my head, then my shoulders, then wrap it around my hands for a while; such warmth and glow from the colors, like a sunburst or flames from a wood fire. Can your mind convince you to be warm just by holding this cloth? Where will you use this cloth? Weave it, take a little piece for your heart, radiate some strips from the sun/moon cloth? or just let it be to kindle dreams of warmth and the sun…

wish you lived closer so you could come and stay here until this crazy weather passes by. all of texas has had a problem with the power grid today so there were rollouts all day where you would lose power for 35-40 minutes. i lucked out. mine’s been on all day but i’ve been trying to conserve. we hardly ever have snow in austin but the ‘infamous they’ are predicting 1-3″ tomorrow night. people here don’t know how to drive in snow so i plan on staying indoors. stay warm and safe. sending you warm thoughts.

thank you for thinking to say that…about being related
    somehow…i am watching that too.
i cannot say enough how much i love this weaving…love
the TOUCH, me to cloth, cloth to me….
we need to either get out of dodge or fix this shit!
this is crazy….but then, good discipline to just
see what will happen?…NO!…we need to fix stuff.

the velvet is the very best. it’s Diane Cransac’s.
it is on fire with itself. i just have moved it around
the house for this year…just touch it a lot. admire
it. i cut a little strip tho. a
    l i t t l e strip.
it will go on the weavy one.
the Sun/Moon, well…that will probably get the
mosaic weaving that jude is teaching us…but isn’t
that strip of luminous beings just the total greatest???
it was in the collection of cloth she called Swamp Thing.
which made me think of your swamp buddha.

I love seeing what everyone does with the pieces that stymied me! I’m happy I wrote down the steps I took to make the moons..seeing them makes me want to try again.

Oh dear! That’s cold. It’s all relative, what is cold. Stay warm and safe and I’ll hope your weather returns to normal quickly. Your basket is a wonderful one…

Grace, your basket loom is pure magic.
I think that what you create during this time is going to be powerful, indeed.
Keep on keeping on. Change is just around the corner, hopefully! Remember what Winston Churchill said, “if you going through hell, keep going” . . . or something like that.

in email, i told Deb that i’d really like more if she
creates more…it’s really a very one of a kind image
and also very Deb Lacativa too….has her hand, for sure.
am really looking forward to seeing how it goes….
will be an important cloth to me.
    THANKS DEB!

Cristina…i think tho that you have a traditional adobe?
Those thick thick walls make such a wonderful home. My
neighbor down the road has a very very old home and it
is the ultimate in either cold or hot. Amazing that we
    don’t seem to learn….
I have no idea about the following thing. i never could
make it work on other peoples Typepad blogs either. when
i quit (if ever) being so excited about sewing in the
class, i’ll spend some time and figure it out, hopefully.
Glad your heat is up and running. you are lucky to have
    your brother close…
and then, in the midst of all this, i think always of those
    cranes….~.~
