this is where i sit when i "talk" with Wendy's children017
there were notes in the rock since last fall, but now on this first day of warmth, i see they are gone.  i also see this small doorway in the last photograph…to the right.  someone is living here over the winter and maybe needed the notes to weave warmth inside?

this morning, first meadowlark sang.  there are bees moving slowly through the branches and grasses.  too soon yet.  all is still brown and dry.

but i will photograph this things as change comes, change that began today.

Well, it will be a while before WE are seeing bare earth…. but there is a turning in the wind and a gentle hint of spring in the birdsong. Even though it snowed today, just flurries….. I like the last photo with the triangle thingie with holes and a Buddha(?) intriguing.

    the triangle thingy. yes.
my son tried moving to N Mex 2 years ago…it didn’t work
out and they are back in Denver, but in the summer he
was here, his intention was to make me a little fountain
out there…made a mold for concrete, with the holes
which were going to have copper tubing somehow and
attached, somehow again, to a little pump. he thought
the lizards would enjoy the water seeping over the
form and then having warm rocks to lie on. i am forever making little “spas” for the toads, lizards, insects and the “Unknowns” that live out there.
    someday he will finish it.
the pic of me…well…how else. but i did like how
the tree branches and the sky are in it…it really is
a glorious day…61 degrees and as clear as clear can be.

no. that’s the first of this year. just put it there
today. in the top photo, just to the right of the mason
jar? do you see the little dark doorway under the grass
clump? i think that’s where last years notes and strings
went. there are many things, well..maybe i should say,
some creatures that live out there that i never see.
night creatures. but their holes and doorways are
here and there. and made new each spring.

Grace, your noticing reminds me of the trails the mice and moles make in the snow around here. There are just a few hours each spring when you can see these trails as the snow melts away and reveals these huge networks. We’re having a thaw here this week, and so I am sure to see some. Thanks for reminding me- I’ll look for your notes, too, just in case…

    thanks for the pics
brown and dry after snow? here we get a carpet of green, and there are little white flowers, like camomile but not, that appear after snow.
the photo of you and the sky in the chair is my favourite
