jude said a pic of me on the ladder…well, i have short arms and this is the best i could do.
and then, here we are so far. it's the odd lighting that makes the drama here, but i am so excited about this cloth…..

the earring..made by a woman up in Magdalena. copper and
turquoise. i wear earrings like they were acupuncture.
do not change them…only when they somehow fall out and
then i think i’m getting a message. too bad too it’s
not the other ear…2 addit. holes there…two posts…
a moon and a copper lizard. my best ear.
i hadn’t noticed words. like in the directions for
microwaves: do not put your head in here. duh.
thank you for love.
i am really SO happy with this great adventure and funny
it’s not all that different at all, if any, from the
first one i stitched out under the apricot tree in C2C
but has such THICK meaning for this daughter and i. this
feels so so good to work this through for her, for us.
and, really, also for my mother. when i went to
Minnesota almost 6 years ago…drove, a clunker of a
Honda with 2 dogs…to be there for her 90’th birthday,
…while there, in some “non” conversation, i told her
i was sorry for not having been the daughter she had
hoped i would be.
her response was:
looking off in a totally ho hum way, “you’re ok”.
so…there is a lot being worked through with this
cloth. yes. i am ok. my daughter is beyond ok. and
my mom is ok too, in her own way.
ok means a lot of things.
and ok. i am done for today.
thank you, jude.

oh…yes. thank you for watching it all.
tomorrow, the bottom and then the real work begins.
i will get as much done before the girl goes.
then…finish more when i finally arrive. then, mend
what falls apart into eternity.

Relationships with the women in our lives are complex and textured and your piece reflects that so well. Grace, I’m amazed at the lengths you go to to be able to work on your pieces!

Softness and strength, mothers and daughters, ok and more than ok; a generational weaving that tells of heart, love and a sense of the place that we women inhabit in our landscapes, both internal and external. This cloth holds deep.

I can’t believe how generous you are to share all this process Grace; thank you. And, I keep thinking about your dark piece from earlier this year, the dark frame that looked like a stage. Always inspired Grace.

yes, life is a story. lately the word ‘story’ sounds strange to me–almost like it has lost its meaning. wonder what that’s all about.
