i got enough done.  each of these pots is filled half with manure/compost, hosed down.  i will  add soil that is dug from other places and mix it in.  in a week, will plant the indigo, madder, and  weld.   i have mixed feelings about this pot planting.  part of me is sad about it.  but it also seem in keeping with all the rest that has been rising up.    it looks so barren in this pic but that will change radically in just a week or so.  by june, it will look like a rain forest.  sort of.

i also trimmed off two branches of the Mexican Elderberry that almost put my eye out when i tried to pass through with the wheel barrow.  there were a few leaves on them and so…the first jar to ferment in the sun for cloth dyeing.  and  there…the outside kitchen, guess what?…hearts.

Hey, I have one of those little stoves out in the “kitchen garden.” I’ve got to go see if there is a heart on it! I’ve been tucking dye plants in everywhere I can, but I’ve got one area that I’m going to dedicate to annual dye plants.

and i meant to add, the madder needs to be 3 years old for dyeing and you use it’s roots, so you’ll have to keep nourishing that pot for 3 years.

    Grace,
my hope is that your home is no where near
the fire…. I think you are much further south. right?
please let me know. Keep safe!
We are keeping an eye on the one

grace —i just googled new mexico fires —seems there are several burning but didn’t get a sense from what i read that anything was way out of control. it says one is east of albuquerque in sandia foothills. you might want to google too—but i think its pretty far from you. take care . xxoo

one of the fires they are reporting is in
Socorro County, which is why i emailed you.
I still am not sure of the exact location.
We also have one burning in
the Sandia Mountains and the winds
have really picked up this afternoon.

yes, I just checked, too. it is in the
Bernardo area. Right now, over 1000 acres
have burned and the news says some
    homes are in danger…
We can’t even see the Sandias for
    all the dirt flying……..

Kaite…THANK YOU!!!!! for telling me that. i cannot
take a full pot with me, plus, i wouldn’t want to
plant a perennial in a pot…it bothers me. the Datura
was/is in a pot but she hangs out and drops seed
i should have done more homework on the madder. will
keep that thought in mind as i go forward.
