more fooling around.  can't stop.

over in Magic Diaries,  Jude said this morning:

"let it transform.  slowly over time.  until it becomes          yours."

well,  i think that i have a deep love of  Space Inbetween.   i think i might want to find a way to honor that love and at the same time figure out a way to create a cohesive cloth.

i also reminded self that with this cloth, i began by  wanting to put many things i love that may be incongruent with one another,  as  "design elements",   but not as things i love.   things i want to be able to see all in one place.  and that is the strongest  "element" of this cloth.

    isn’t this something like home?

i came to comment about “home”, but see jude has already done it. but yes, that’s what you’re doing, creating a home for things you love. and rearranging the pieces (just like the furniture) until you’re comfortable with it all. now i’m thinking of jude’s ideas of moveable/changeable cloths, and the one i made w/kids years ago that had buttons & shapes w/buttonholes to move about, and how my mother used to rearrange the furniture every month-saying, “i spend so much time here, i need a change or i’ll go crazy”. and now i need to go stitch w/the energy all these thoughts have given!

and space, i am thinking about graces feeling about space and how much she loves that space where she lives.

yes. i was thinking the same thing only a lot more incoherently. also i like how carefully you are sharing your process, Grace. That’s the most interesting part of creativity to me. Goes for dry wall situations as well as a magic diary. The piece has grown so organically – all that looking and looking works well for you. For me it’s been about thinking, endlessly it would seem, about a design choice that feels imperative yet I wanted to “see” something else. Ain’t happening. So it’s time for me to cut some electrified lightning bolts …

grace the elements you add don’t have to ‘go’ with each other at all, they ‘go’ together for you, and you are the element that ties them all together. just as the space between them is you.

    Hi Grace,
I just spotted the lizard(?) – that’s my favourite piece in your -well, it needs saying one more time – beautiful cloth.
I am struggling a bit at the moment – there are so many things from Jude’s lesson to learn and to practise. I thing I stick to Jude’s advice and go on working on small pieces. Maybe, in the end everything will turn out well, and …magic!!! ….a nice piece of cloth will come out of it.

you have such good stories about your family…i love all of them. i used to be like your mom. when i had the
house in michigan, when kids were little. i was reminded of the day i decided to haul a couch up the stairs to the large hallway upstairs…got it almost there but couldn’t figure out how to turn the corner with it. and also
found self trapped by it wedged there. took all day,
but finally, inch by inch i did it.

Eva…i should put a little lable on the lizard..it is
Jude’s lizard…she made it for me when we were doing the
beasts…well…she made it as an example but then sent it to me…
i had been very stuck then too.
    your work is very…VERY…appealing to me…and i
look forward to how it will appear for you…which it
will…there is no doubt….i wish you had a blog.
i CANNOT bring myself to do Facebook…i barely keep up
with this much already, but i really would like to see
more of what you do….do you have lots of work there????

    Hi Grace,
I put up the facebook account to be able to post my pieces on Jude’s blog. It wasn’t that difficult. I thought of a “name” (although eva is real, that’s my name!) and asked the lovely lady who owns the computer store across the road to help me establishing the account.
And yes, I am really thinking of a blog. But I am a horrible perfectionist wanting to do every thing 100% …I think I need some time to get involved in all these blogging and posting and emailing things going on in the world. I am still an old fashioned snailmail afficionado.
I admire your blog and your work.It may sound sentimental but you were one of the first women to comment on my first post. So that’s a good kharma connection for me!
    Off to England tomorrow!! Holidays!
Enjoy the rest of the day,
    eva

Eva…well…about the blogging…i just really appreciate it for being able to follow the process of people’s work.
and my own. love having the beautiful opportunity to
see it as it goes…listen about it. it also give me a much greater sense of the Whole of each of Us. SEW does that too, true. anyway
and yes. YES. i love mail. the black marks on white
paper…the opening of the mailbox and seeing the envelope, the stamps…it is one of my favorite moments.
our mailboxes are in a community thing at the end of the road. we open with a key. i often sit there and stare at an envelope…the handwriting, seeing my name and address, the return above. stamps. postmarks atop. there is something about it. i am sad about much of what is going on in this country at this time but the ONE THING
    I LOVE is the mail.
    send me a note…grace Forrest~Maestas

i have some friends who ONLY do mail. it’s a good thing.
Have a very great time in England and i’ll look forward to your return!

Ha! Being away from home doesn’t keep me away from all of you and Jude’s classes!! I took my notebook with me, and here I am.
I love to send a nice piece of handwritten paper in a proper envelope to New Mexico! It’s one thing that I enjoy during our holidays: writing letters.
We stay in a cottage in the north of England, go hiking, read …well, I try to keep up with a bit of stitching! Pure bliss!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

oh..i love this…a cottage in the North of England…
it is so really astounding that i know these things…
who would have ever guessed just a few years ago. that
i know that Eva is on holiday and blissfull. Thanks for
    this.
all the conversation about typed/handwritten script
penwomanship etc. reminded me of the trilogy of books
Griffin and Sabine. i don’t know if i still have it
….it is an extremely beautifully crafted work of art,
really…i think a lot of Us would like it…. i only
had the first of the trilogy.
well….have just the most wonder Full time and please
speak my name aloud to the hiking trail? and does this
mean i can anticipate at the mailbox??????????????????

oh, i lived that story, too, here in this house, 20 yrs ago. there are dents in the doorway where i shoved it through. dad used to get so mad at mom for, he was a volunteer fire fighter & would have to run out in the middle of the night-banging his legs into recently moved furniture.
