went into town to take Alz B to get our weekly hot dog from the hot dog guy on the plaza. stopped at Thrift Shop. and here we have
this. it's wool. it's soft. it has drape. and, it's 15ft long and 29 inches wide.
WHAT was someone thinking? someone made this. someone went on and on and on. 15ft of on.
There is nothing i can think to DO with it. even if it were in pieces.
Does anyone want this??????? i would be happy to send.

That would make a lovely shawl. Something wonderfully soft and warm to throw over your shoulders on a winter’s eve.

and i just can’t end up being a shawl person. i’ve tried.
but there is too much DOING in my life during cold days
and nights. not to repeat myself too many times, but i
heat with wood. there is pretty constant movement with
that. and it’s not uh, neat. and then, in the last
2 winters, the sewing. shawls are good i think for sitting
still, for reading???, for nursing babies in the night
and early morning hours. what works for me here are
layers of hooded cotton sweatshirts. sometimes 3. take
one off, put it back on. arms are free to do things.
and they can go to the laundromat once a week.

wool is special. it is a climate thing. i think the north country is perfect.

it is special. i sleep in winter with wool blankets. in January i
put one on the back and seat of that Morning Chair to wrap in
when i am waiting for the coffee water to boil and the wood to
get going. and wool socks. all winter, wool socks. and a
wool hat. Yes. i think this was someone’s North Country dream.
maybe she was weaving a road to get there……

What a special find, those color speckles are great. I would love to be able to wear wool – allergic though. I hope Velma shows us what she does!

kniter…so……….

really enough. i have to find a box for it tomorrow.

I wonder if they were going to make a blanket? It could be cut into 5 foot lengths and then seamed together into three pieces. Or maybe a suit? There is a story there…

Yes, I’m with Deb here- I am just mesmerized by its maker’s intentions! And that it is such a cool story of finding its way to the status of ‘treasure’, which just fills me up with happiness. Natural fibers are inherently special, these now all the more so.
