all i did today was sew grass stems.  i started out using just a single strand of embroidery floss.  that got old quick.  so i changed to two.  two different colors.  better.  but it's slo going.  i finished two grass stems, bottom to top.  took a pic and they don't show at all yet.  and the first is doubled, so that one has 4 threads.    more.   maybe after tomorrow there will be something to actually see.

in person, they are visible…i like them a lot.  i will add all the things that grasses have, those poetic things, the sheaths, inflorescences, rachias, lemmas, spiklets, glumes, anthers and awns…all of it. this part will take a long time.  the leaves too…      as i look today, i think at least three stems on each side, maybe more but fore sure, 3.  they arch from bottom of the cloth to the top.  it's good.  just nothing you can see yet.

and in the middle of it, i was searching for a little shirt that has fabric i want on it somewhere,  and didn't find it yet, but did find the following that was from Cloth to Cloth.  i like it and maybe will stitch on it off and on when the stems wear me out????  the woven strips are ones i dyed……

this is beautiful, with the woven strips reflecting the flower, such deep drenched colors…and here’s where i admit that i enlarged the photo, as soon as you mentioned the grasses…and searched, got the glasses out & tried to see the grasses…before reading the rest of the words & “seeing” that they weren’t here. good grief, what a day.

I say it all the time & am sure i learned it from peanuts, i think they all said it, but yes, lucy did a lot. funny you should say this…i was trying to google an old lucy friend of mine. i always wanted her name, too. there’s a great strong happy first grade lucy at our school.
and some of the story is at my house now. ha.

Hey–LUCY says “Good Grief, Charlie Brown!” Sometimes I think, Charlie Brown says it too.
Nice design Grace…very pleasing. But, better you than me on the grass. No wonder your works are so arresting. It’s all in the details once the ground is set. You are growing ‘saint’ patience.

These colours and how you’ve placed them are so satisfying to look at. And I love your grass words ‘inflorescences, rachias, lemmas, spiklets, glumes, anthers and awns’ some of which are new to me and a pleasure to say. I imagine them as part of an ‘Ode to Grass’.

wait till you see what happened this morning ~
and yes..they are love words. if i read A Field Guide to the
Grasses of New Mexico aloud, it’s shamefully sensual.
