it started on monday (or before) but on tuesday i wrote something in Diaries comments about the post of tie ing in…and as it goes for me, as i was writing, i began knowing what i was thinking.

i was thinking something about a tree.  i said there, a ghost tree.  but it is really a spirit tree.  a ghost tree is different.   and then,  shortly after, i went over to Michelles in NYC and watched the first two of LatchoDrom.   and i knew.   Why a tree appearing in this?  i don't know.  yet.

001

but it's begun.  kantha.          it is a tree like the desert willow here, like the mountain oak in Northern California.  slender trees,  able to accomodate their surroundings, or is it their surroundings accomodate them?  but there is a compatability.  a companionship.  an ease.

so..lots of stitches to come.  will branch through the center panel.  bottom to top.  and then, this morning,  Michelle does it again with today's post.

I like how you are using the texture of kantha for the bark of the tree and how it is emerging from the cloth, not with a drawn outline – like a spirit appearing.

yes, a spirit tree shimmering into being, branching out & bringing together.
i dreamt about you last night. all of us came to your place for a retreat, the focus was carding wool, women and wool everywhere. it was wonderful. we were all so happy and busy, great big armloads of wool & cranking carders, blending & creating colors.

There is something about trees that draw me in. I see human forms or animals. There is an ancient cherry tree where I walk and I see a woman with her hip extended as if to balance a babe. Your Kantha stitching is so beautiful and is capturing the spirit of the tree.

Hi Grace, lovely to see this close up. I think the Kantha stitching is perfect for capturing the essence of a tree. I imagine that this will look beautful spreading around your moth and moon. I haven’t tried this stitch yet but am looking forward to trying it. I’m hoping to do my next diary piece, quite different to my last pieces. LOVE your work. oxoxoxoxoxo
P.S. my interpretation of a tree is over at sew forum at the moment.
    P.P.S. I LOVE TREES

Grace, I see a lot of movement here. The eye pop’s from the surface, but I see also an aerial view of the top of a bird’s head…where what appears to be the cloth that is not attached – wings (can you see it), maybe a leaf in the upper right corner, moon/sunlight…it’s almost like a small environment with/within the tree. maybe it’s also a tree of life?

thank you…this is good, then….it is not a “real”
tree, but the essence of a tree, or
    tree ness?

shimmering. good word to arise right now…leads back,
for me to a moment long ago that taught me so much.
i wish your dream was Real, what would that be like, i’m
thinking…i have carded wool. it is a very sacred set
    of movements.
for so long i wanted Churro sheep. i wanted to make felt.
Did we make FELT? was it THICK?, like for a yurt?
i am honored to be in your dreamtime………

no. not a particular tree. all of them have what they
Have. the old oak with my rope swing when i was 4, the
wild cherry and apple, pear, weeping willow of that
childhood, the fallen logs of that time too…just on
the earth, the One over the creek. the pines.
and on…everywhere since, there have been trees.
in this Real estate Video from Jenny i mentioned in Diaries, those
    trees
    and i burn wood
    to keep warm
for a long time i have been very care~full about my
    tree thoughts

and kantha. it is such a gift to me, knowing about it.

it is All of them…i guess it is just Spirit for me.

I read Nance’s comment as a family tree. The tree that is pulling its branches in a bit and sinking new roots. Like I said recently about the spaces of your cloth…room for more of what is to come. I am not you, but these are the feelings I get from your words and revelations and your cloth.

i’m sure we were about to make felt. the details were blurry, just the noisy happy productive jostling sounds of women getting things done together.
in the rocky moment of of living in boyland this evening, i thought, “i wonder what train leads to grace? and how much cloth should i pack?” just knowing you were out there was a comfort.
