reading Jude's Post in Magic Diaries,  i thought i had a thought.   how i could find a different place for the Diaries Cloth than where it's been on the Wall when not on the table being worked on.  i didn't want to roll it up.  but i thought i would put it on the south Room window, as curtain for a while.  so i did that, but once there, i knew that i very much want to keep going with it in a focused way.  so, no.

but then….i realized the "underthought".  that i wanted access to that design Wall for some small cloths.  and Why?, i wondered.  and then it was very clear.  as if this thought had just been waiting for me to think it.   in November there is the Festival of the Cranes down the way at Bosque del Apache.  you could google both those.  they have an Art tent.  Bird people come from all over the world.   My alzheimer's B is losing ground fast.  so income from caring for her might not continue for that long.    i KNOW that i DO NOT want to continue with another person.   So…the question is, what can fill that space?  and the underthought is:  What If  i get some smallish cloths ready for the Festival and see if  it can happen that way???

002
these two plain pieces of home dyed cloth have been pinned on the Dragonfly Poster wall for a while.  everytime i go by, i stop and look.  Something to do with night in this desert.

003
and this is familiar.  it goes back to Contemporary Woven Boro.  it isn't really a cloth, just ideas pinned together.  but i love all the ideas a lot and can envision them becoming a cloth.  about visual music.

so….if i began now, i MIGHT have enough to take.  it's juried, so would need to have a few ready soon.  Hmmmm.

of to goat world.

Grace, of course…you can do it!
I wrote to you that a friend of mine met the old G. O’Keeffe for a talk many, many years ago. G. looked at her artwork and gave advice.
She said, my friend should keep to small format, because (even at that time) museums were not keen on accepting big pieces (of course, a money thing).I think it was something she experienced when she was a young artist. Later museums accepted every format gladly…
Long ago (30 years…when I was young..lalala…) I took part in some exhibitions, even had my own very small “show”..I learnt, that small pieces do sell better than big ones.
Your work is wonderful, just do it…

you are so lucky to have this direct Georgia connection…and
    yes. small
these pics…the first is 12×9 and second 5X12 good sizes.
and maybe $40. that’s an amount i would easily spend on someone’s cloth……
    so…thinking.
i came in to get a bandaid. goat work is bloody.

“goat work is bloody.” – you make me laugh!
    On a more poignant note…
Yours would be a booth I would stop at, buy from. I would look for a long time at each piece, listening. The one that spoke the loudest would get my hard earned money and I would carry it away with glee. Later, while riding home in the car, I would, of course, take it out to look at it some more. I would look at the whole of it, then the little sections and stitches of it. I would turn it over and inspect the back (other) side. I would turn it back over again and gaze dreamily…I would smell it and wonder about its maker (except I already know you!! teehee). Then I would lay it on my chest and feel our heartbeats join.
In other words…yes!! Do it! And I agree about the smaller size/pricing part of this conversation.

who the hell gets to decide what a cloth is ??
    I DO.
its a cloth for heavens sake & a beautiful one.
    i would buy it too.
    go for it .
    nothing ventured , nothing gained.
    seriously.
    or not so seriously.
    just do it.
if you keep feeling inspired to do it.
    nothing like inspired action.
amazing results are possible. are likely. are pretty much certain.

we’ll see. so far, they have been so specifically
    personal
i could not part with anything.
    who knows?
but i do know that i DON’T want to continue leaving
    home.
there is goat cheese to learn. i really really really
want to do that. and it takes milking twice daily.
    no deviation.

it IS bloody. you should see my hands…all scabby. i
will need to find another way of keeping the “gates”
closed other than twisted bale-ing wire. i also have
a splotched eye from poking it with the wire!
i love watching you in this scenario…….like that
    you smelled it.
    like best
that you lay it on your chest.
i’ll try and see how it all goes.

Oooh, take care Grace! I read that in a flat monotone voice in my head, which made it funny…
But eyes are for stitching and Not for poking! Yowzie…be careful!!! I don’t think I’ve ever heard it said, “Don’t care for those beautiful goats, you’ll poke your eye out!!!”
OK, now I’m just being silly πŸ™‚

    Dear Grace
You do not need your work to be ‘juried’ by some stranger. Don’t wait to see if you will pass their judgement. Just sell it on-line, (put it out to the universe), we all love your work already. I know you will be encouraged by the (financial) support you will receive. xxx

I think, Jacqui’s advice is one that you should think about.
I would like to buy a small piece, too.
And paying via PayPal is easy for overseas customers.

    Jacqui…thank you for your confidence…
i really do like to take things to these kinds of
Events.* it’s really interesting to me to be there and
watch and listen and interact with people.
*did that with the fiber figures some years ago…
so…we’ll see. the first step is to start stitching.

    i don’t know how this works —
but i’m betting anything you would want to sell would want to be bought by those of us who know you here—
its not the same as being at a gathering where you meet & interact with folks & can look into their eyes—
but i wonder if it could be a piece —-maybe a starting piece–
couldn’t you just show us —as your friends —what you have & are ready to release into the world —& the person who gets there first sends you a check & you send the piece & you don’t have to do any pay pal stuff–
    maybe something to ponder…..xo

    oh dearest judy~
it’s always easier for me to sell
things to people i DON’T know.
You are all like family and i just want to GIVE them
    to You…..
but as i said to Doris below…first things first.
    i need to MAKE some.
    for now, it’s just a thought…
(although i have put the needle to cloth in that
    direction this morning…just a stitch….)

i remember when you wondered if anyone would want your work… well now you know… and if you give it all away it deprives the gifted from the type of exchange that supports you which is what they want to do.

Grace is your name you fabulous deep hearted crow woman so please give a gracious nod in accepting that we all want to buy a piece of your cloth!
Remember how you were saying you had found your path & could stitch stones for the rest of your life? to quote you from awhile back-
“i LOVE it. i LOVE sewing stones. i will become a professional stone and rock sew~er. anyone, all over the world can email me. i will gladly, joyously, spend the rest of my days sewing stones.”
well I would love to buy a littl e stone cloth from you that would be so cool!
& re the cloth that’s too personal to sell… I mean what the …??? that’s your truth… it’s the special pieces that fall out of your hands that speak of the deep & the true & have a huge chunk of your heart and soul, they are the real works that get made every now & then in this lifetime & y’know truly it’s not a problem letting them out into the world as it just makes room for more to be made!
NB but never ever sell yourself short, find a price that you feel happy with & stick to your guns, then it’s an honourable exchange but you know all this, you’ve done this before with your fibre figures it’s just time to do it again with a second Saturn return under your belt this time which will make it a lot easier!

Well, lot’s to think about and then think again! All who love you are saying yes please and that’s a lovely vote of confidence. But I don’t think that your ability and skill is at issue, only the way of living. What you love then becomes almost a business because you need income but maybe that is ok too. Dear Grace when you get to it, I will join the line-up to buy a cloth from your heart.
