so…i thought it was IT.  But it's not.  i can't do it.

001fix
everything was really, ok but the mouth.  just too small, the muslin shreading with the stitching.  Close, but ….alas, Not.

so, ok.  I can make these kinds of drawn faces:

002f

003

004

005f

but not what i thought might be IT.  Ok.  If i want to draw, then i can draw.  If i want to make cloth i need to learn to work with cloth.  and Cloth it Is.  so……….

Tomorrow is another day.

am in a funny place in the moment. There is that whole new fence which changes Everything here. Everything, on
going. AND the engine of the car blew. done. gone. over.
but there’s still the truck. and daughter and grandson who i’d not seen for a while towed it here. seeing him and all his Flounder was hard. but it’s HIS life. and the Goats. the Goats. and the tomatoes are beginning to really set. and Jude’s latest post. and i burn Nag Champa and the oscillating fan oscillates. The days are
going FAST, like marbles rolling across a hard wood floor.

Grace these faces know. They are amazing. Second & third photos, so mysterious they make me want to cry. I love them all, even though I know they don’t quite work for you (not what you ‘saw’). Most of what I do is not what I see, but I drag around and do it anyway. 🙂

I think I understand what you mean. Your drawn faces are so amazing on the cloth but in the other perspective it does not work with cloth. I´m looking forward how you solve this problem you will find a extraordinary solution as usual. … As to the cloth, I like how you change the pieces it looks very harmonic how in my point of view.

Love that – “like marbles rolling across a hard wood floor”…. its like a lyric to an old Bonnie Rait song… and so audible. I have the image of an old, old floor, not quite level and the glass marbles rolling and then – ping – hitting something.
I’m TAKEN by the second photo – the face, with her hair blowing in the wind.

    This…..
    The Buddha’s Last Instruction
    by Stanley Kunitz
    “Make of yourself a light”
    said the Buddha,
    before he died.
I think of this every morning
    as the east begins
to tear off its many clouds
of darkness, to send up the first
    signal-a white fan
    streaked with pink and violet,
    even green.
An old man, he lay down
    between two sala trees,
and he might have said anything,
knowing it was his final hour.
    The light burns upward,
it thickens and settles over the fields.
    Around him, the villagers gathered
    and stretched forward to listen.
    Even before the sun itself
hangs, disattached, in the blue air,
    I am touched everywhere
by its ocean of yellow waves.
No doubt he thought of everything
that had happened in his difficult life.
And then I feel the sun itself
as it blazes over the hills,
like a million flowers on fire-
    clearly I’m not needed,
    yet I feel myself turning
    into something of inexplicable value.
    Slowly, beneath the branches,
    he raised his head.
He looked into the faces of that frightened crowd.

    it is as it is…
i like those round faces, personally i find it difficult to make faces, not an easy path….
but hey who said it was going to be easy, all the time…
you know sometimes you need the turmoil to shake you up and let out the good stuff, plenty of that evident here…

i feel the same way when I try to incorporate text into a piece and it so often sucks (not that your faces, do – not at all)… for faces, I have been using the Inkadinkadoo moon rubber stamp for years – serene, eyes closed, lovely – but ultimately unsatisfactory because not MINE. I think ONE remedy for this vision/manifestation disconnect is to really go off beam… what I’ve been wanting to do is gesso shit to a canvas. no auditioning, no re-arranging 1,000 times, no stitching… just go. Still cloth.

maybe not IT, but definitely SOMETHING. your faces, so lovely, real & mystical at the same time. me, today it was all i could do to use three dots & a line for a face. & in the last photo, love the warm glowing colors.

Keep Going. yes. i WANT to. and that is the absolute
JOY of it. even when it’s not It, just saying, “oh, ee” and taking it apart. It’s amazing how much i LOVE this process….like, flashes of wanting and then just not caring at all what happens, to just Continue. all through the goat stuff, my mind is still ALSO with the cloth. How it’s somehow the same that gives the excitement, the pleasure. How i am trying to somehow depict how it is to LIVE a life……….. I really love you. So GLAD for u.

    grace two ideas:
1)soak the cloth in soymilk and use watercolors
2)make your own stamp by carving an eraser, potato or…something.

you know Grace …. maybe the trace of that face could be found in the in between where the frayed edges overlap… just peeping out and maybe just barely brought to the surface with a hint of stitch caught out of the corner of your eye…

no. not what i “saw”. but the experience raised questions that are GOOD. Mostly, about What Is It that
i am looking to portray in a cloth? What is it i want
    to “show you”????????????????????????????????????
