so,  i began stitching a slight strand of Wind.  near the bird.   then, for whatever reason got caught up kantha-ing the entire piece of Sun.  all day.  finished about 4pm, put cloth on wall, and knew it wasn't at all right.  took it down and REMOVED all the kantha.  back up on wall and there, some how atop the pile of scraps in the basket below,  …WIND…  .  and this morning, i am looking, really wishing there was a way i could leave the thread strands loose,  not stitched down at all,  leave them Exactly like they are in this moment

well you could, and just let it fall where it may over and over again. you found a lovely kite.

yes, just leave them where they lay/blow. & if you want them exactly where they are NOW, you could tack them down w/couching-catching hold of your beautiful wind.x

Why can’t you do just that, let them flow; maybe one tiny stitch to connect the thread to the cloth at some point letting the strands catch the air currents…for me, it is a revelation that you stepped back and looked and removed your most beloved stitch, the kantha. Tells me that the cloth is definitely sharing a conversation with you…

i kind of knew part way through that it wasn’t how it
needed to be…but really didn’t think about the WIND
until i saw that scrap…which is really, just a square
    sitting there

I did it once..dozens of tiny pins, dozens of tiny silk stitches and when it was all done..I wasn’t happy because you can’t stitch down the wind.

no. but i have to keep trying with Wind. it’s so much
a part of Everything for me.
i thought of using the gauze again, i did that once
but that didn’t work how i imagined. or silk…i have
some of Glennis’ beautiful silk but oh, and eee again,
no. Wind in my life is not silk. it’s thread. or
filaments or even tough fiber, like yucca fibers.
anyway…ive begun replicating sorta the spontaneous
ness with single strand split back stitch. it will maybe
    be ok.

Got me thinking about wind… that its invisible. And so for you, its thread. Which is kind of a wind map in its own right. Mapping wind movement, a drawn line – a moving dot. Trajectory, like my thoughts about this. Darting, this way and that and swirling with ideas. Windy.
Which took me to the house my grandparents built on Cape Cod, next to a lighthouse on a bluff. They called the house Windy Pasture. So windy that my grandmother couldn’t grow much in the front of the house. Especially lupine, which she so wanted to grow. In the back she had an enclosed garden. Memories all surfacing thanks to your wind-thread 🙂

Leave the threads loose – I like them so much, I love loose threads on work to give it texture and freedom.

HEY Chris…thank you for coming! and i love them too.
but this cloth is going away for awhile and to people
who don’t look at cloth i don’t think, so i’m thinking
i need to do a little something. Maybe when it gets
back home, i can let them loose.

Hi, Grace. Love how this is developing. I like the threads exactly as they are (the movement is perfect) so I would be tempted to tack them or couch them down, or else trace them with a fine pen and cover the lines with stitching. It will be interesting to see what you do.
And have a very happy holiday season with lots of stitching!
    best, nadia
