the first real "winter weather".  wet miserable goats.  what can i DO?  now, dark dark dark and Wind.  that diagonal Wind that breaks fences sometimes.  so inbetween, i stitch.  finishing that Other Cloth that came just before Grieving and got set aside.  This one too will travel.   Can't wait till light to see how it looks, so this here, with the flash, so not quite true,  more defined than in the light of day

004f
very close to finished.

005f

??????? it's just there.  on the wall.  out of character.

006f
and this.  a Relief.  a Reprieve.  Just a piece of walnut dyed harem cloth.  really, to me, just as beautiful as anything could be.

Oh Grace–what CAN you do for the goats? And the cloth waiting in dim light…yes the harem cloth is beautiful just like that. Such a distressing day here. I have been distraught and can’t quite shake it, but just now Cally Conan Davis published this poem at her amazing photography blog–and I find it comforting.
Because I believe in the community of little children,
    Because I have suffered such little children to be slain;
I have gazed upon the sunlight, dazed, bewildered,
As a child is by nothing more than rain.
Not until I can no longer climb,
Until my life becomes the tallest tree,
And every limb of it a limb of shame,
Shall I look out in time, in time to see
Again those who were so small they could but die,
Who had only their vast innocence to give,
That I may tell them, pointing down the sky,
How beautiful it might have been to live.
    William Jay Smith
So I’ll sleep now, thinking of the slanting rain and with prayers that it will break no fences. Enough’s been broken for one day.

That second piece might be ‘out of character’, but I love it Grace. The colours give hope…of brighter, warmer, clearer times. I think it’s uplifting.
And that diagonal, cutting wind…I love how you have shown it in cloth. That’s a strong image.
Those goats are toughing out the winter too. It can be a hard and depressing time, but it’s just the season and it’s always followed by spring …new growth, light.
    Thinking of you.

Thinking about how seagulls will fly in the wind as I look at the top…and the bottom piece of fabric is a place to rest and that is good.

Jacky…that’s the interesting thing. the colors of
the first cloth, the emptiness of some of the spaces, to
me is warm, clear and uplifting. it’s the World i chose
…not coming by this birth from it, but the world i
recognized as one that makes sense.
this red stuff…well, i don’t know. am looking at it
out of the corner of my eye
    MUCH love to you

Carine…i have built the buck goats a little hut, yes.
but Wind and the weather it will bring switches one
side to the other. and you can’t close that little hut
too much or they are uncomfortable. and all the tarps
i have covered it with, eventually, they tear off with
their Buck~ly business. Maybe there are just too many
    Buck Goats?
i work at it and day before yesterday i put bales of
bedding straw in there. they liked it. in the morning
i could see where they had layed there. Who, i don’t
know. again, i need to go out there with a flashlight
in the dark and look. i hesitate to do that because it
unnerves them and they are unable to think well in the
    dark. ah, sigh.
the does, the 13 does are all good. they have more than
they need, really, in the moment, with no really little
ones. they are fine. it’s those bucks.
and it’s when the forcast says possibility of freezing rain.

    I’m guessing you’re pretty tough…
and the bucks, my mother keeps telling me in humans the males are the weaker of the two sexes, maybe it works that way for goats too, they are more Active and therefore perhaps more Vulnerable, bigger risk-takers…
anyways, good luck to you all out there, I’m sure everything will turn out all right

Other Cloth is so full of space and sound for me.
Love the movement in the creatures. the balance of the finely stitched lizards with the solid and dark crow / raven forms ..they are all alive.
And the face rising up from the earth . Very powerful.mouth poised to speak? what does she say ?
    very beautiful.

cindy…i have to go to work but just read your comment
and sat looking at your words and thought…
well…Yes. yes. somethings are just possible to
put into words. or, are changed by words. and that
is exactly what i love about the cloth making. it
presents a picture, an image. that can be “read” in
many different ways and that’s the beauty of story
cloth. IT tells the story without words.
    so…to your words….Of Course! and yes…..
so much love to you…your dinosaur Post just is so so
touching……….i can’t imagine the depth of your
