this second altar cloth is a challenge.  the first had the dramatic imprint in the center.  here, there is just center.  as i said…though trying to remain as empty as I can, in my center, while stitching,  i need to say that there is the image of Cycle,  Migration,  Natural Patterns here.  and as i work, i wonder if there is too much of that.  Sun and Moon, ok.  they are what Everything that we are and know rises from each day of our lives.  Sun and Moon.  Earth and Sky.  yes.  but beyond that ?

these small bits are just pressed to the cloth.  that thing of "story board",  flannel boad.   i am looking long at them.  what is it i Intend by their inclusion?  do they have Real place here?  or….am i just uncomfortable with a completely empty Center?

something is wrong with my Gmail…email.  i tried today to accomodate Google's constant urging to upgrade my Thing.  i clicked and clicked to arrive at Google Chrome.  what i have, is email that doesn't work.  so…patience.  maybe i can go back to the old way that actually did work, though they kept telling me it was no longer supported?????  anyway…just so you know.

I like the little bits there. The daily cycle is present on so many levels, not just sun and moon… They also cycle within us. Ad our lives progress in a cycle… From babies to old age when we become like a baby again. It’s that ts eliott poem rising up again. I haven’t thought of it in awhile. In the four quartets… Cycling around to the beginning and knowing it again for the first time.

the little bits maybe are like markers. if we are
    traversing distance?
maybe whatever form we are, bird, insect, human, mammal,
Fish…we have some sense of Markers?

Markers makes sense for migrations—how we get from our here’s to outhere’s and back again—about chrome though, i’ll just tell you I’ve had that “no longer supported” notice, along with and “update your plug in’s” notice for at least a year…and my g-mail works just fine most of the time…folks have told me that chrome has given them lots of grief….Google often gets us to switch in order to use us for testing their new thing so they can work out the wrinkles using us as subjects (eek)…so I just put up with the notice and ignore it. the ‘plug in’ thing though is a bit of a pain as it wants me to GET the new flash player which it then won’t give me when I try. I can’t play videos unless a URL is there as well as the screen with just an arrow at the center…so what. Jude’s site continues to work for me, as does you tube and most others. I think you can switch back somehow. Good luck.

Still so much space within this altar cloth, even with the little cloth flags/markers and intersecting thread lines that present an opportunity for mapping a life; 4 sections, 4 seasons, 4 directions…

I hate updates!! just posted about going from Photoshop Elements 3.0 to 11 (I held off for a VERY long time). I think the term ‘update’ needs to be in quotes, too — because so so often they just change something. They don’t make it better. And INVARIABLY some feature I liked a lot goes away. This is NOT just resistance to change. It’s something weird about the computer industry.
Anyway, I think the question – am I just uncomfortable with an empty center – is one very worthy of exploration. putting pieces on, taking them off, watching the reactions, the visual takes, where the body wants to go…. if it were ME, I’d leave this one, with its giant X marking the empty spot, and quickly layer up another (#2 in a series) and lay the chips of color (markers of migration?) on IT and go from there.
