Finally.  some stitches.

IMG_6238f

and these came today.  What perfect timing.  the one on dying is from me to my Self.  the other,  the Alice Walker,  is from,  i'm guessing,  my second longest friend who continues to Just Go in Detroit.  she had written the other day about so much loving reading it…how it helps her Just Go.  she is my friend from 7th grade…we Continue only by pen on paper.

and Solstice.   there are many images, many words for Summer Solstice.  that live in the land of Numinosity.  the land of Spirit.  but the bottom line for me is just that it's

warm.

and there is LIGHT.  long long hours of Light.  enough Light.   but then, at the end, even today, i have to let it go.

but then, i can still spook around.

IMG_6244f

can you see the chair?….inside the shelter of the Giant Sacaton grasses?…barely.

and in the very first paragraph of the book about dying,  i read words that tell me again why i so love Tibetan Buddhism.

"Death is one of the most precious  experiences in life.  It is literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  The karma that brought us into this life is exhausted, leaving a temporarily clean slate, and the karma that will propel us into our next life has not yet crystallized.

so.  here i am.  looking around.  it's warm.  it was a long long long day.  that day is over.  now, time to Just Go.

Grace, this is just a stunning way to mark solstice. The two passages into/out of the centre are so compelling. I love this Grace! Thank you.

I also love those passages – those delicate lines tracing a whole other design on top of the other. connecting and also canting off center

oh, i’m so glad you like it, Wendy….and it is just how
Solstice IS for me. when i began this, it was
    and Altar cloth
and then the Living of the Life entered in and there was
interruption and as the Unforseen would have it, here i
am TODAY, Solstice, 2013, finally…stitching. Perfect.
and for me passages into/our of are a necessity…the
    coming/going/ movement.
and in this very moment, SUN is nearing the RIM and i am
crazy with love for LIGHT. just crazy.

The sunset sky – the jet trails seem to somewhat mimic your stitches – synchronicity. The trails seem to be the sign of infinity, traced in puffy white across the beauty of our Southwest skies.
    Blessings on this Solstice.

love the “spooking” around you’re doing there, in the dark, uncovering so much beauty.

This is a very good, strong cloth. For me, it has a profound balance: the cycle of life and death for during the making and necessary setting aside of this cloth, the days held the births of doelings and bucklings and the death of Ramon. There is a containment of the light within the borders of this cloth but there are also gates, leading to passages. The gates are the little pieces of cloth touching the center of the inner border, and the circle of light. I look at those trailing stitches and think yes, because as much as we know the certainty of the life death cycle, there is much we don’t know, the stitch trails mark the unforeseen and that too must be considered in the balance of it all…

Beautiful post, Grace. Beautiful cloth–it says a lot to me about going one’s own way within the structure. And the books… I hope you’ll write a bit more about each of them as you go along.

oh those pics once the light has all but gone, beautiful; I noticed how the circle in the cloth is echoed by the bookcover, the criss-crossing lines in cloth are real special (and they btw are echoed in the grasses).

i love all that you see here Marti.
when i work on altar cloths, i try to simply follow the
cloth, follow one fragment to the next, one thread to
the next and thereby leave the cloth “open” to be anything
    at all.
so it is always wonderful to hear response…

love the turning of the cloth…whichever way you look at it, there are ways to go from the organic center. “spooking around”- like that. love to you.

strangly, the idea makes me feel warm and comforted.
& Alice Walker, very fond thoughts about her, she came and helped raise money for our bookstore twice…way back when.
blow the babies a kiss for me today.x
