things are still not right here.  so, i'll keep it short.  in case.

and no.  Typepad is still having issues.  this pic will not resize.  but anyway,  this is Tazmeena.  She has been my Partner here, in this home for many many years.  i really don't know how many, but approaching 20.  Which is unheard of for a cat in NM who has access to outside or in,  her choice.

and during the intensity of the Milking,  i caught myself being Annoyed by her.  as i was bustling about getting ready to milk,  she was thinking maybe it was time for her to have new food in her bowl and was Saying things to that affect and ….i found myself

Annoyed.

speaking to her in an Annoyed voice….WAIT!!!!!

Tazmeena is slower now.  it takes her sometimes two days to get any mouse here.  it used to be just one overnight, or even half of one night.  So, yes.  she's slower.  but she still Works.  and she did not deserve the annoyance and harsh tone of voice.  She sat quietly and just looked at me.

on the road down from where i work every other Monday,  ahead,  i saw something moving on the pavement.   it didn't have the characteristic details that i could identify as maybe a tarantula, a horned toad, a lizard.   and i drove around it,  but then just past it,  need to know.  so i stopped in the middle of the road and left the car running to go back and see what it was.

a HUGE grasshopper thing.  maybe a true Locust?, i don't know.  yet.  but huge.  larger than my thumb and all covered with the most amazing patterns of Armor.  like a rhinnosorous…or how ever that's spelled,,,just amazing….and going so SLOW.  Walking.  Walking across the road.

people look at that kind of high desert land and say nothing lives there.  that it's empty.  and that breaks my heart.  SO MANY things live there and live there Well.  doing their share of planetary imperitive.

Slow kitties… Pasha is slowing too… and TALKING a lot more, and I find myself sometimes a tad annoyed by all the vocalization. And I can’t BELIEVE I could get annoyed with him, such a wild soul spirit-friend of mine. I’m admiting it publicly here for the first time. I need to check myself when he’s talkative, and remember he’s an elder, and has the right to talk. So, I hear you.

has the right to think that since there is so much GoingsOn, that
it’s time for new food in the bowl.

I think your grasshopper is likely a Plains Lubber. We’ve only had a few this year, just up the road from you in Willard. Sometimes they are really thick, and one year when a friend drove up from Tucson, they were just thick covering the road somewhere further south.
I so enjoy your blog. Had milk goats in Colorado many years ago when my kids were little. I’d come help you if I were closer.

Judi…thank you. a lot of times i think that i am
writing about nothing much here. repeating myself.
    looking at the same things…..
but in reading this book that India Flint suggested,
World Enough and Time by Christian McEwen and reading the
chapter A Feast of Words about reading, i sat and thought. what i love to read anymore is just about people’s lives. Women’s lives mostly, and what i love to read is about the simple things in their day. and so i
think about that right now. so your words here….that
“you can’t imagine”…more good thoughts. i can tell you
what i see. and you could tell me what you see in your
city. maybe these are the best things to write?
    again, thank you…xo
