the plan was to drive up to Water Canyon.  but it rained here, all last night

and tho the roads all the way up the mountain were clear and BEAUTY FULL,  once we began to enter the canyon,  there was snow and ice.  ahead i could see that an inversion was settling low…colder temperatures just down the road.  so now being older and wiser we turned around and came home.  Next time.

What grace is too modest to say is that her lasagna was just about the best we’ve ever had and I am a very good cook. This was no ordinary lasagna: This life affirming Solstice lasagna had that most important quality- the oozy factor, that melting, gooey luscious factor that took it over the top and made you glad to be alive on a cold, snowy, windy New Mexican day. Eating together at the table, the warmth of the alligator juniper burning wood, sharing, a bit of cloth looking, laughter and did I mention eating, well, this is how you come in out of the cold to the light of the Solstice and to the enduring love of being together. A day simply doesn’t get better than today.

yes. and to all who say that the Internet is not real….
we met through a Writing Circle. and here we are today…
what??? 7 years later?, going to a Canyon, putting wood
in the stove, passing things across the table, listening to Goats, talking to them, turning Glorious Compost, ignoring
drips from a ceiling, ignoring how the Old Dog makes
mistakes on the floor, petting the shy cat, looking at
Cloth, receiving gifts of Cloth, candles.
    Whoever says it’s…uhhhh, well…whoever Says. i Say
    Real is Real.

WHO CARES! it’s only a couple times a year, then it
dries. but now….hmmmmmm. So, Paul comes Thursday.
    He will fix it.

Just what I needed to hear and see…loving relationship aptly described, and photos bursting with warmth, spirit and JOY. Oh, and speaking of joy, is this a tear of it in the corner of my eye? Is this calmed heart a sign of the comfort received? Of course.

in my mind i stepped into this circle and shared the hug. the love. the joy. palpable. and i’m looking at the raft and the glass jar. and wondering what is in it? and where will it go from here? and the goat. oh, the goat. so alert.

Hello Saskia, I am always held in quiet joy when we connect through the airwaves of our computers. Yes, it is so incredibly wonderful to see and be with each other in the flesh, “in person”. Yet it is equally special to come to know someone from their willingness to share their lives via a blog, their words, their photos, their heart allowing for connection…it is all Real.
And as to the big guy. Well he is only 6 ft tall but is big boned and big muscled, huge of heart as well. grace is a tiny woman. He loves coming to grace’s place, makes himself right at home and is always moving about on her land, connects him to his Minnesota roots.

you would have been so good here. your presence would
    have melted in.
the glass jar, a canning jar, holds/has held two
watercolor paintings and words from two of Wendy Golden Levvetts kids from a couple years ago…who had
relationships to the Cloths i made that are there.
i’m not sure of the Reasoning of why the jar, why Out
There, but maybe it is the place of my own Vulnerability
and so, i put them there with me. We are all vulnerable.
But, we All also just go.

what a pure gift of delight to see, in a photo, Marti and her husband. Marti’s voice coming to me over many years on the page as I opened the computer, and now when I read her words I will see her “self”. Solstice shared with deepest heart centered friendships is surely one of the very best gifts. Food, place, thoughts, all wrapping up in comfort the love of friends – deeply felt and shared. Grace, thank you for sharing this Solstice time of beauty and light.
