work away Tuesday so,  not a lot of time here, but all the Ground is invisibly stitched down.

and i just did it.  the top green…i stitched it.   Visibly.    i stood a little while before i put the needle in to just go….and in that moment i realized it's something i do that i hadn't actually acknowledged before.   All the while a cloth is invisibly basted,   it is as if it could be "real"…it could be like the Real image of Whateveritis  the story is,  that is in my mind,  is something Real in my mind.  a Real thing, a Real place,  in this case, a Real earth, far below.   But when i take a real stitch,  it suddenly becomes a Cloth.   the story i guess is taken on, or into,  the Cloth??,,….?   hard to describe.    but it's a significant moment.  from then on, there is no hesitation.

i found this shirt the other day at the Thrift Shop.   it's a really very very fine Linen.  a Ralph Lauren shirt.   and tho i've never had a Ralph Lauren shirt before,  i would imagine that kind of shirt might be this very good linen.  it's not light weight, really,  and it's very soft to touch.   it's Celery Green.   like those scraps in the cloth.  like everything leafing outSide.  and i've never chosen to have a green shirt before.  but now…..   i'll applique some scraps on it.    will be a spring work shirt.  gives me a good feeling.   i've cut off the collar and cuffs.

I know what you mean about the stitching…its like all the possibilities coalesce into one actuality when the you can see the containing threads.

oh grace! there is a joyful dance in this cloth! an air dance. and elevation that makes the heart and mind soar. evocative of that feeling you are trying to convey when you begin to stitch the story into existence. there is magic here. and delight!

i love the way you put language to those moments–the gaps between going and going. they can be easy to overlook. but your noticing and expressing them helps me pay closer attention.

i think it is the feel of it. the stitching, the stitch, the stitched cloth. the feel of intention. solidifies it.

this shirt is different in it’s density and softness…
different than linen that i know. but today i got my
Goat Shirt from last year off the hook…and am wondering…
    do i really need two?

hesitation…of in a certain way Not wanting to keep going, but then when i did, the deep sigh and pleaure of it

the Thrift Shop. there is only one that i have, but it’s
enough. not always, but often enough, these really
    amazing things

The shirt is just wonderful, i can sense the softness indeed. my daughter would probably wrap it in rusty things and berries and tie real tight and put it in a pot of stuff and cook it and then unwrap it to see what happened. Dying or whatever that is called is the neatest thing.

it IS. it IS the neatest thing. your daughter, she
is further along than i am. i still don’t “wrap”…but
just plunge things into a pot of leaves and water. this
year i am hoping to be a little more uhhhh, a little more,
    ……..intentional.
    yes. intentional.
and probably this shirt will go into a pot. it’s a very
light color and i do not live a life where light colors do
well. too much going on. so, mottled colors are good.
and yes. it’s surprisingly soft for linen. very soft.
