so…maybe i get it a little?…the real SHOCK of what this country is saying these days.  Sorry.  Sorry to all who don't want to hear it,  but ….

so i posted this pretty much Nothing.  a cloth.  atop the cloth a wad of other cloth.  River it said.

it's a River.  and now late,  after already posting,  the word River kept flowing and it brought with it  Talking Heads….take me to the river so i go to utube and click and there he is the crazy and magnificant David Byrne….Crazy and he's saying Take me to the River.

my whole life has a background of Songs.   Songs and Songs and Songs.  and i guess i thought it might always go that way….just a series of Songs….

Talking Heads

    ……oh and
and she was drifting through the backyard
and she was taking off her dress
and she was moving very slowly
    rising up above the earth
    moving into the universe
    drifting this way and that
not touching the ground at all
    up above the yard
oh grace so happy that i get to know you…i love my series of songs…and i think i love a lot of yours as well

“The River Is Wide I can not Cross Over” (old Scottish tune), “River, Stay way From My Door” (Early Blues)–there was one about a river—what WAS the title? Somewhere in it this sentence (not the title) Buffy Saint Marie maybe?: “Up and down the river, so many boats to ride, yet few of them deliver the goods that we need to survive.” And there’s “Lonely rivers flow, slowly to the sea, to the open arms of the seeeeeeeea–tra laaaaaaaaaaa. Nite nite dear Grace. I’m about to “give up the ghost”.

still not in bed–just read this on Judys blog:
“Concentration, being with the center, is the secret of our uniqueness, the secret of our being, of our authenticity. Making time each morning to concentrate on the messages from your body, making time to concentrate on the images from your dreams, to dialogue with the treasures from the unconscious – this will keep you in touch with the river within. Then, at any moment of the day, you may touch into that river, into the places where things happen.”
Marian Woodman, from The Silence and the Dance 1993

feel the floting water deep under the sandy grond
feel the streem he knows where he’s going to
    barefoot is great
the dew-drop on the grass …. plants
i see you feeling the mud when you have watering the goats and plants
keep you intouch with the river within
the holy wind …. is going his own way
here last week he was strong and cold
and had rain under his wings
thanks for that rain … are plants needed that water
healing the self by make somme cloths
    i like that
is as cleaning the feet after barefootwalking
my toughts become still after reading all these words

Not one for much barefoot walking, especially here in this little house in New Mexico where our front and back yard is gravel based but after reading Julie’s (Threading the Dog) latest blog entry, a memory came rolling in: One of the neatest things to do with bare feet is squish grapes. When Rich and I were first married, we both were college students, going to a small state university in California in the central valley. We lived in a trailer on a farm and across the road were vineyards. Given the gift of the leftover grape harvest, Rich decided to make wine. My contribution at 8 months pregnant was to stomp on the grapes in my bare feet. Got quite the massage and my first experience with natural dyes!

This reminds me of something my father used to joke about, that rose wine was the water from rinsing you feet when you were stomping on grapes for wine. 🙂

Love this song too… a wonderful one to start the day off with. Songs are important to me, I think they give us hope and help us grieve.

and now the next morning..i am attacking the trash ..loading the car to go to the dump..tossing the garage…checking stuff ..trying to start learning the new /recycling /compost rules right now even though they do not quite take effect for a while….better just to make these habits…
but all the while the garage is echoing as i blast the talking heads….a man on huge piece of machinery is out there slowly going up and down our road, resurfacing..dirt and gravel pour……..it is unpaved and this past weekends storms have made it sort of like a very slippery mudslide..with ruts..i am singing with hum ….abandon….and he stops and smiles..ok laughs ..i don’t care..the sun is shining…there was an actual sunrise….see what you started….it is warm..my feet are bare…( ok where i taught was on an old ymca camp..huge and wooded and we checked the kids constantly for ticks..the cats brought them as well…some spring mornings we had to keep the kids away from the edge of the woods..you could see the ticks just hanging on the plants waiting…and the cats carried them in constantly..once spring started so tick checks are just a way of life…deer and wood…they abound in delaware..i assume they will here as well…) i do not go barefoot into the woods for many reasons…but the meadow is too glorious right now…not to..it is that very small moment when it is not dry or full of thorny spiky things….it is grasses and wild flowers and the earth is warm..
and strangely to me ..the front of this house has a “lawn”…to be mowed and tended..(well for now) and it is full of dandelions …which we love and are enjoying…i mean suddenly full of them…not one in the meadow…which is fairly big…..it seems funny…happy day to you

Peace like a river ran through the city
    Long past the midnight curfew
    We sat starry-eyed
    We were satisfied
    And I remember
Misinformation followed us like a plague
Nobody knew from time to time
    If the plans where changed
    If the plans were changed
You can beat us with wires
You can beat us with chains
You can run out your rules
But you know you can’t outrun the history train
    I’ve seen a glorious day
    Four in the morning
I woke up from out of my dreams
Nowhere to go but back to sleep
    But I’m reconciled
Oh, oh, oh, I’m gonna be up for a while
    Oh, oh, oh
I’m gonna be up for a while….Paul Simon

and to learn and know about the Necessity of ticks…
when and where they will be…
    It’s This.
and the dandelions…same. “Not one in the meadow”…
    Why? there is a
    REASON.

meadow came over and took me out in the field..out in the meadow looked too funny..but it was true ….and showed me the different grasses that we have here and told me the dandelions did not compete that well with them…she also said that they loved the flatness of the “lawn ” area so much better and how well and how easily their roots flare out and take hold there …we do have huge dandelions…anyway it will be interesting to watch them…and see what they do as we change the tightly packed earth…such a great torrent of musical responses here..yes oh yes
