In more ways than one.   We have reached the point where any rainfall simply lies upon the surface of the earth until it is evaporated by the SUN the next day.    The surface is sand and it becomes mud and just under that in most places here is a layer of clay and then caliche….with the qualities of cement.

So it's HUMID.   I am trying to take my cues from the Doe Goats.  Just be still and stare off.  Tay and the buck Goats are more inclined to express themselves with pacing and bugging.  Chinche plays dead.  Tazmeena,  i have no idea.  Haven't seen her since breakfast.   I assume she's somewhere on a shelf.

So what do you do when you are restless and uncomfortable?

weave a pie.

and finish a Cloth.   I think this is it.   All the words i thought i might say about it i won't.   It's  just about gathering things in….when things are Unsure….just gathering what you love around you.  That's enough.   The scrap under the Rain came as a surprise at the end of the day.  But it's right.  Tomorrow i'll sew the sleeve.

WEAVE a PIE! But, of course!
    What a beauty!
That final cloth touch is inspired.
Hey, hope you have many rain barrels gathering the bounty.
So glad to read you tonight before I lay this body down.

recipe for pie crust? it’s a beauty.
i understand goat doe’s propensity for staring. although this summer hasn’t been quite as humid–humidity is always present, along with mosquitoes. challenging combination.

Humidity in the desert? That must be strange and uncomfortable. Your pie is a beauty and so is your cloth…the rain is an inspired touch.

might gross people out…it’s made with Crisco….but
i’ve tried substituting and nope. If i am going to make
an apple pie or two Once a Year from apples i pick with
my hand, it’s gotta be the “right crust”.
Gramma Lassie’s No Fail Pie Crust
    4 C flour
    l T sugar
    2 t salt
    1 3/4 C crisco
mix dry together then cut in crisco
    1/2 C water
    l T vinegar
    l egg
beat together then add to dry mixing as little as possible to moisten dry
Divide into 5 portions and Chill at least an hour.
will make two 10″ double crusts or variations of single
    crust pies…like pumpkin….
it’s No Fail because if you need to you can very easily
patch in extra pieces by just pressing scraps on.
i have tried a billion crust recipes and this is the best.
and…Lassie…what my dad called my mother…her name
being Vlasta…which in her mother’s mother tongue meant
mother country. Moravian…or now, Czech Republic.

yes….and to be expected during Monsoon, but we usually
get a couple days now and then to dry out, but not this
    time…it’s rain Every Day…and night.
I love the annual apple pie. Just LOVE it. Just gave
half to neighbor Margie…another good thing about pie…
    it is good for neighbors.

gracias. will let you know how it goes, next pie i attempt. i keep forgetting the czech connection. my mother’s mother–Albina Shipek–was a very proud Czech…spoke Bohemian–and made kolaches–lots of other sweet memories of her.

i just made an apple pie (transparents from our garden) with all butter in crust and it is good. but i agree with you and the wonderful photographic evidence up top…crisco (mom used similar recipe to yours ) makes the Most Perfect and Delicious and Fluffiest Crusts.next time i am going to go back and use it. thank you ! for recipe

yes…an all butter crust IS great. and this is the
only thing i would use Crisco for. Once a year, this
    pie crust…and well that’s not exactly true…for
pumpkin pie too. So…that’s twice a year. but
twice a year is just ok, i think.
Let me know if you try it.
