Almost by accident i saw this NEWS:   The Elwha River runs 45 miles from the Olympic Mountains to the Straight of Juan de Fuca.  It once was the richest, read that most SACRED,  Salmon River on the Olympic Penninsula.  It was the home of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe from the Beginning.   Today the demolition of the last 30ft of the  210 foot high Glines Canyon dam will signal the culmination of the largest dam removal project in the World.  By the unrelenting effort of the Lower Elwha Klallam that began in earnest in the 1980's.   As the River has been gradually released,  Riparian Habitat has returned as have Running Salmon.  You can read more at:                     news.nationalgeographic.com  Worlds Largest Dam Removal Unleashes U.S. River After Century of Electric Production.

SHE'S BACK!

i must have taken a zillion pics till i got this one…she is camera shy.  Tracy.  Here she is in all her glory and so much Bigger today.   She had 3 shrouded wrapped forms in her morning's web which is also Bigger.   I'd never noticed before,  that as the spider grows,  so does the web.    So.  Tracy.

and as August goes,  there are Stink Bugs toodleing around everywhere.   Pinacate Beetle.  So diligent and sincere in their life's business.

the first bloom of the Native Sunflower,  maybe the Only Native Sunflower here this year.  Last year there were many.  ?????  But,  here,  and Fine.

i began the Lizard.   Worked a while then gave up.   It's not an end of the day kind of work….the cloth that i think i Need for her is soft and difficult to stitch without creating folds and Lizard does not have folds and ripples,  is smooth, taught.  Will wait.   but i did begin.

grace, this is beautiful. I dream of dams being released. . .in so many places. water flow being restored.

i am so gratefull to have seen this…as i said, almost by accident…
it is Beyond Grand and Wonder Full and Excellent and Great…
that we release rivers that we have held prisoner for so long. What a relief to the Land it must feel….????
I am still lost in the imagining of it. What magnificence
would that be for this Rio Grande River here that has been
held into almost non existence. Held into Mud, only.
I feel it like i might feel my veins and arteries clamped with no flow of blood then released
This is just SO incredibly beautiful to me and the Nat Geo article….how it refers to the fact that it is what makes
    SENSE….

thank you Cindy and Grace, when I flew across the US there & back again earlier this month looking out the window I was surprised to see how very dry a third of your country is & the shock of seeing the big rivers dammed to a trickle… this news gives me heart

I also flew over the country recently and saw lots and lots of brown… but I kind of skipped over that part of the post, because I can’t think about the big changes we (the earth) are undergoing today. Not right now. Last week, I took some pictures of spider webs for you Grace. They really were for you. I’ll post them some time. And walking through the woods in Vermont yesterday, seeing so very many webs, I thought of you again — this time, about how seeing those strands is all about the placement of light… there must be so many we don’t see because the light doesn’t strike them just so.
Also, I keep thinking about the Bigness Of August… and I hope that when there is a little more time for cloth again you will find that the Bigness of August has filled you up in unexpected ways.

our state is working hard to bring the salmon back, but this is probably the biggest thing they are undoing. all the sediment will be carried out, shared with the rest of the sound.
the lizard will find it’s path.
