startled to see,  at the edge of the Front Porch,  a very young basil plant.  I could not believe my eyes….it's the Worst place maybe, or close to the worst for a plant to decide to grow.   We go in and out and past this spot a million times a day,  all of us.  But…there it is.   A seed had traveled.

so i put this old frame from somethingelse around it and gave it a drink of water with a glass from the kitchen.  We'll see.   Ify.

went from there to doing some of what really needs to be done.  Things are about to go to seed.

Wheelbarrow took about 10 minutes to fill.

these two.  Pigweed ,  Palmer amaranth  and Goat heads,  Puncturevine Tribulius terrestris L.  Both noxious.   At certain points in their annual experience, dangerous for livestock.   Due to the great and good rains of August,  they are in great abundance.

goathead.  you can see to the left if you click,  the "fruit" of this plant which grows flat on the ground.  This one maybe almost two feet side to side and it's a medium one.   A few days ago i was surprised to see that it was prolific in the Way Back.  I thought i'd gotten it all pulled a couple years ago,  really, before the Goats came…when i paid the guy  $200 to do all those weeds…roots and all.  Seed from this plant can remain dormant for 4-5 years and so…i see this.  All the rain of August  energized those dormant seeds.   But as i walked through them today back there i saw that the Goats had eaten the blossoming tops.  This is BEFORE they had time to fruit into the sharp and dangerous Goatheads that can punture tires of wheelbarrows and bicycles and animals throats and guts.  I stood and stared at this.  There are some plants out there that the Goats have not touched.  I'll look closely at that tomorrow.  But…if what i think i see is what i am Seeing,  the Goats may have done them in.  Taking the blooming flowers and leaving the vining of the plant,  they may have erradicated those 4-5 years of sleeping seed???????   Too soon to tell.

the Pigtail ….you need gloves to pull them when they are to the point of seeding.  But now yet they are soft.  There are some in that Far Back Pen across from the buck pen that are 6ft tall.  I need to get them pulled.  They're still green so not to the point of casting seed.  Carpe Diem however it's spelled.

there are so many small scenes like this.  Things dried out,  things still going..mid stream….they pull me to stop and just sit next to them a while.  Insects are bizzy all into and around.

as annoying as Tay is,  Chinche is good.  The annoyance has brought her off her quilt and Out.  It's a good thing.

I commented about the basil on the previous post after I got all involved with Mo’s Western Australia calendar and film….It’s 4:22 9n the morning and I just woke up and came over for a visit. We have hot again here and I’m all closed windowed locked in with the A/C so it’s like being on another planet in a way…great quietude…the natives sleeping their sleep and me and others probably–awake…to bad I can’t drift out to the yard (what yard) and breathe in the muggy air…look up through the building canyons to the sky….(((sigh))) I used to do that when we had the back yard gardens….memory is ubiquitous.

When i saw the little basil I thought. (from the Gods)! Got out my moon growing guide. BASIL=grown around tomato plants will help them resist disease, but give added flavor to the tomatoes.it keeps away white flys, houseflies, fruit flies and aphids, bees love. It.. I have a garden box on legs and my basil. 1st ever grew like it loved my place. Cropped it twice and coming again. I will grow it all winter if it will. Having it by your back door. A gift. The green will make you smile. Your yard to me is a treasure land So many rocks. And beautiful pots and containers. My daughter likes your dying corner. She does to from watching Jude on iPad. Enough for now. Happy day dw

Hi Grace, Basil really doesn’t like the cold, I would bring it inside for winter & I love weeds, digging them out helps pay the rent!

i need to do this–weed–but i’ve got to tell you, the mosquitoes this year are as big as crows. it’s impossible to walk through the garden w/o getting dozens of bite w/in 10 minutes. i have found, though, that if i don’t itch them, the absorb into my system in a matter of hours. but it’s hard not to scratch an itch. now that sounds pretty weird.

Goats chewed on the water line to the swamp cooler, so
no cooling here, just the whirr of the Fan Owen. I could fix it but i haven’t. Not sure why. Sometimes i guess
i just like to live “as is”….which is hot. If it were the beginning of the summer i probably would fix it right away. But now, i am thinking that soon it will be different…soon i will need to wear sox. So i just leave it alone.
ok…i need to look up that word….ubiquitous…wait a minute, i’ll be right back
everywhere at the same time, constantly encountered
am thinking i like this word

Donna…if i made a little cover thingy, i might be able
to overwinter the basil, depending on the winter. Most
ordinary Winters, yes. I always think i will, but then somehow don’t. But, maybe this year. I love it’s a
    treasure land
to you. Love that you say that because right now it makes me look Again and see it that way. I was going to tie up some cloth bundles this eve for the old walnut vat, see what happened and was also going to put some of the elderberry leaves in a pot. I didn’t do either, it was still too hot and i was still to moody. Maybe tomorrow.
    Love to you

there are all kinds of Saving and Saved. Who knows?, the under a train. Not you or me. Just him. And maybe not even him. But maybe he’ll find out in some life. Probably so. and it’s a different story, but it’s Real. Plants are real this way. Kelly, the young nurse up at the Old Folks Home lost her favored little wether Goat because he reached through the fence and ate Datura. His eyes dialated and he had seizures and then died. Plants are REAL in their
    work.

i used to do landscaping too. and yes…weeds meant making a living. Now tho….but there are only SOME in comparison to before the Goats. One year i cried when on my hands and knees pulling them. This is NOT that. Just
    well
    just how it is

right now there are mosquitoes here. Only because of all that RAIN and now the under growth. Ordinarily, not any.
It makes a huge difference…in willingness to stay out late, working. Probably in the next couple days it will be the end of them.
