Look what i did.

I made a lake.

Left the hose running when i changed water for the Bucks.  It goes out the gate and along the road.  I can't believe i did this.

I flooded Tay's major stick stash,  where she keeps her Alphabet sticks.

IMG_0866ff

She wasn't sure where to put them.

there's really no way i can tell you how to look for them and they blend in so well,  but there came DRAGONFLIES.   News travels fast.  Faster than i would ever imagine.  There were several.

So i decided to bite the bullet and called the guy up the hill who never wants to go home and yes he could come at 1 oclock.  Because Alberto and his ranch guys never showed.  So ok and he is here around one oclock and all he has to do is stand there really,  i explain it very well,  but he is moving around and coming up with senseless ideas and i try to lure Nogal out but he wasn't buying it.  So after about 20 minutes or so we give up and i say OK,  Thank You.  And go to pay him but he says he has brought some feed sacks and would like to load them with bark from the fire wood splitting and feed scrap and i say ok and he needs to take breaks now and then and he is slow as molasses anyway but the breaks are a whole hand rolled cigarette long and it went on and on until finally at about 5 oclock i say…you need to go now and he goes.   All the while i need to stay out there,  he has so much to talk about and i pull weeds and say uh huh and he talks and talks and talks.

Toward the end of all this i hear a honk honk honk and it's Alberto who says they worked very late and came by earlier and saw all the water in the road and decided i was flooded and his guys don't work on Sunday but maybe monday and Come here, he says and i go closer, he is sitting in his truck, the door is closed and he gets my arm and pulls me a little so he can hug me and i back off maybe 6 ft and he laughs and says Come Here,  i say NO,  he says but just a little, i say NO repeat repeat repeat he tells me how much he likes my eyes and that i am so Soft and say Thank You for the compliment but NO.  He says but your husband died so long ago and i say yes and thank god but NO !   He laughs and drives off.

So, now what.  Time for Plan D.  What would plan D be?    I have to think of Plan D.  Faustino,  the Officiator at the Dump has goats.  What would it maybe mean to him if i asked him?

I heard them.  looking up,  and you will need to double click.

Oh my my….the lake is kinda nice but oh the water waste, well it will soak in, and Tay will find her sticks, and the dragonflies were grateful. But the talkie guy, well that’s a trial (service work for the lonely) and the ‘won’t take no for an answer’ guys–Jeez. Maybe, just maybe someone sensible in the next try….but that sky!!! Tonight a fine sleep is well deserved.

O my my indeed. I don’t know. what i DO know is that if i can possibly do it myself, i need to.
in other days i would have mustered up a Snotty Self but she seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the line. So this present self that wants to Live and Let Live is looking, looking for how to go

much that you show up here for me, FOR me at the end of my day….
as i said…it somehow releases me from the day and says ok, grace, let it go for now. Tomorrow is another day.

WELL, this was a day. Sorry that you had to put energy into dealing with those who don’t want to hear…and the lake, maybe you should name it….Letter Stick Lake. Nice to see Tay continues taking care of things. I will imagine the dragonflies- remembering the first time I saw them as a kid on my cousins’ ranch, swimming in the pond. I couldn’t believe they were real & so blue…Sleep well.

    the birds–
    could they be sandhill cranes?
they visit here in late fall/winter.
    i am waiting for them.
their voices–the soundtrack of this place.
not a simple day for you.
& as usual, you do good with it ..
    sweet dreams.

I used to read a picture book to my classes, about a river in Australia (the Finke?), that told how it would be completely dried up, for years, because of the droughts, but then the rains would finally come & three days later the river was full of full grown fish. We would imagine and write stories of how this would come to be- we loved the not knowing, the mystery of it all.

I have never seen one in person, but knew they were sandhills when I doubleclicked…such a distinctive shape.

i remember the first time i saw dragonflies..it was in a little tributary of the bear river near grass valley on california..they were so beautiful..their darting was foreign..but mainly i remember being transfixed..because we had an old incredibly illustrated set of the stories of the Brothers Grimm..and it said right in those stories that the dragonflies sewed together the eyelids of children…really these were nightmare worthy illustrations ..done with the most vivd and beautiful colors deep crimsons and emerald green , cerulean blues, burnt sienna…..they had depth and shadow,,,and i was so scared..
and i remember how kind my parents were and how reassuring..and how we sat and marveled at them..the air was full of the scent of manzanita.. and the earth was so red…it was such an intense afternoon as i sat on the bank..so safe in between them and we watched the dragonflies over the water
what a day..i am so glad you had the cranes at the end of it..
    gentle day grace

Sourse knoweth! I love dragon flies. Their wings are geometrically perfect like eternity. Magic yes. Was that a Mama eagle and two eaglets? Learning to fly. As far as Mr. Slo worker , he is probably smokin and WATCHING. You mistify him.

Oh I have chewed on this … not being able to find words until I read “buck stuff ” … yeah, that … really, it makes me distraught that anyone should have to deal with that, let alone you.
But water and birds … they can soothe the soul … and I’m thankful the cranes brought you a sense of peace and the right order of things at the end of the day

Although it was an accident, something that can happen to anybody. But you also did some nice landscape designing. I think it really looks great in your garden. I have great respect for how you stood up for yourself considering those men.
Did you know that dragonfly is a symbol for transformation?
