It was a What If day.   A day that belonged to it's Self.  A solid day.  A day of Basic Goodness.  A day that had it's own Just Going and  ok.

It began with a loooong phone conversation with Kelly who has Magic and Barbara,  about so much, that i can't even think to put it here but i loved listening to her,  her discoveries, her Dreams,  her Awareness of where she is in the moment and where she would want the moment to take her and her family.  and it ended with an agreement about a buck   coming to her Place for Barbara and Magic.  Soon.

Then,  it tripped into a call from neighbor Margie who thought she was dying and wanted me to take her to the ER and i thought, listening, that she has this viscious flu and i didn't want to get near her so i convinced her to call the Ambulance which she did and i sighed relief but then got a call a while later from her at the ER,  could i come for her.  Yes.  she did have the flu and yes…there was no other answer but yes,  i will come for you,  so i  took a big swig of Fire Cider from Taking Root Herbals in Vermont that Cynthia sent me…the label  of which advises to take take when traveling anywhere germy or at the first sign of a cold,  repeating often….. this would be germy….and i arrived at the ER and there was a staff person speaking to a person who was Blind and milling about and then others were there in the waiting room obviously feeling wretched,  so i asked the staff person to give Margie a mask so she might not infect me with her germs and he laughed and said ok and there came dear neighbor Margie with a surgical mask in place and i apologized to her but reminded her that i am On My Own with my small world here and she laughed and it was all ok.  And well,   we'll see.

Some More taping of the window panes on the final side of the Window until the Granddaughter called and yet another long conversation that also involved taking some kind of personality inventory that proved what we already knew that we are very much alike but a conversation that left me feeling the very natural and  easy connection with her

and between all this off and on and in between,  these pieces of cloth that really "don't go" but then really DO?   in a What If  way?

I brought in the copper pot and cleaned it of the sludge of summer

All at once in demand…not just the regular needs, but more! It happens like that. About pomegranate-in addition to uses for dye-they have a very specific odor and the skins when dried retain it. Peggy Vonberg at “woman with Wings” does one like that every year, and you could still use the seeds and innards for dye-+-there’s a fine soup recipe on this one as well–http://womanwithwingsblog.blogspot.com/2012/10/half-moon-soup.html

oh swig away…i think gallons are downed daily here in this state..it is funny to have been in such a different place in the past few decades and to now be in a place where a sneeze will bring offerings of people’s own personal batch..i made fire cider for the first time last year..it is amazing how your house smells..that alone is enough to make it addictive..and now it is always in my refrigerator as well.. but i love the taking roots blend..it is so good and comes with gentle humor..be well..
    .
i do like this though..apples and pomegranates ..the earthy darkness of the copper pot pictures and the latest pieces of cloth….persephone deep in the earth and yet unforgotten and even there ..connections in a world of your own making
    gentle day grace

First photo, cloth on top, opens to me like a pomegranate, opens in sections like you open to whatever the day brings. When I took previously dyed cloths, soft brown of walnut, soft beige of acorn and put it in copper pot with pomegranate, got a mauvey brown in the one and a deeper mottled brown in the other…plain cloth yielded, in other attempts with pomegranate in copper, aluminum and rusted enamel, colors of gold, purple and the most unexpected of all, black. black…
Quiet but special day for us today, married 45 yrs…a lifetime together, just going…

    “Eat bread and understand comfort.
    Drink water and understand delight.
Visit the garden where the scarlet trumpets
are opening their bodies for the hummingbirds
who are drinking the sweetness, who are
    thrillingly gluttonous.
For one thing leads to another.
Soon you will notice how stones shine underfoot.
Eventually tides will be the only calendar you believe in.
And someone’s face, whom you love, will be as a star
    both intimate and ultimate,
and you will be both heart-shaken and respectful.
And you will hear the air itself, like a beloved, whisper:
oh, let me, for a while longer, enter the two
beautiful bodies of your lungs. ” mary oliver
congratulations..quietly but full of joy for you..it is such a lovely thing to share a life time

Liz is right…the pomegranate in the copper pot is deeply beautiful. The story of Persephone has always bothered me a little because the versions I know offer little choice to her. She is kidnapped by Hades in her innocence and tethered to him by the pomegranate seed. Nobody ever asks her what she wants to do. Its all a negotiation between Hades and Demeter, her mother. The dark force of death drags her away and shows her things she would rather not witness, but the alternative is to be a girl forever under the protection of her mother. That is attractive, but not really viable because everything needs to grow. It is a paradox that death is what enables Persephone to grow. I guess sometimes we have to be wrenched choicelessly from what we think we want in order to die and become something larger.

    so far so good.
and do you keep it in the refrigerator? the label doesn’t say.
i’d had it in the frig but was harder to shake up the sediment
    than when room temperature.

yes..i remember your deep green again, i think it’s whats in
    the water.
I felt kind of bad about the mask, but this flu is a strong
one and also would keep me from doing the Old Cowboy thing,
    and so hard for him.

THANK YOU for the link to Mountain Rose and the video of rosemary
    ….REALLY Great!
am going to need to try to grow horseradish again. I had some
going a few years ago and i can’t remember what happened. The
guy who founded the Farmer’s Market here grows it and although
he has retired from farming, i’m sure i can get a start from
    him again. Will call him.
Have you ever grown the ginger as she suggests?

so glad you liked it..well yes in delaware..although really it was frequently so humid there that the ginger would simply start it self it you left it out..i am consistently surprised here when i go to use the ginger that i have ( carelessly) left on the window sill..where it lived happily in de..to find it withered and dry..but that works really well
i am so excited to try horseradish..we had a lovely but almost totally shade garden..to have sun..and southern exposure is simply wonderful
