The Tubers

From tubers some 20 plus years ago

IMG_2774f

Jack.  I don't remember how i found out.  but people a couple miles down the way from where i was living at that time had an old burro.  They didn't want him anymore.  I remember walking home with him,  shaking a can of sweet feed to keep him going.  Maybe a couple miles?

These are pics from the actual Photo Album.  My grand kids.  the girl one is Alyssia now,  26 almost.  Jeff 24 almost.  They  "rode" him around .  Really,  they sat on him and he went where Ever he wanted to go.  He took them for rides.

we flooded the "front yard" .  The kids made a world there.   There some very old withered tubers.  I thought nothing of them.  But with this Making a World,  they began to send out green leaf shoots.

and for AnyOne.  AnyOne,  looking for a softer way.  Because of Michelle directing me to the link for Sharon Salzberg,  yesterday,  my beloved UPS woman came and honked.    If you are looking for some softness to this life,  some gentleness.  Even though we might say…oh,  sure,  a 28 day program….and think,  oh, ha,  it is a very Excellent and very FINE teaching.  I let go of my Buddhist stuff and just go with her.

all the time with the Old Cowboy today,  internally,  i repeat….the Metta,  as Salzberg gives it:

May you be safe

May you be happy

May you be healthy

May you live with ease.

I watch him.  Talk.  Listen.  and internally i repeat the above.  It's GOOD.  no matter who we are.  It's good and is kind.  It  makes a HUGE difference in how it All feels

To see Alyssia and Jeff, to know that Alyssia’s son Julian has come to ole Nana and created his own world, just like his Mama did, is to know the elasticity of joy…
I read Sharon’s words and immediately come the words from John O’Donahue:
    The Blessing of Presence
May you awaken to the mystery of being here and enter
the quiet immensity of your own presence.
May you have joy and peace in the temple of your own
    senses.
May you receive great encouragement when new frontiers
    beckon.
May you respond to the call of your gift
and find the courage to follow its path.
May the flame of anger free you from falsity.
May the warmth of your heart keep your presence a
flame and anxiety never linger about you.
May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of
    soul.
May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles
    that seek no attention.
May you be consoled in the secret symmetry of your
being and may you experience each day as a sacred gift
woven around the heart of wonder.

…..so many thoughts …coming out of the pictures today…which of course is making me smile..because this week i wrote how your words are enough..and of course they are..but i cannot dent the impact of your pictures..from the now and from the past..as always making me so glad to be here..
your iris ..patricia’s…tubers and tay..and and the stunning beauty of you and your world…and words
    It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
    small stones; just
    pay attention, then patch
a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
    a contest but the doorway
into thanks, and a silence in which
    another voice may speak.”

    Meta Loving Kindness Meditation
    May I be at peace.
    May my heart remain open.
May I awaken to the light
    of my own true nature.
    May I be healed.
May I be a source of healing
    for all beings.
Say this blessing for yourself anytime you feel alone, afraid or out of
    touch with the Light within.
    May you be at peace.
    May your heart remain open.
May you awaken to the Light
    of your own true nature.
    May you be healed.
May you be a source of healing
    for all beings.
Say this blessing for as many people as you wish. If worried thoughts
about loved ones occur during the day, take a moment to send them
a loving kindness blessing rather than a fearful thought.

whoa. i should stop right here and just take this all in–for today and tomorrow and for ever–, because the images are indelibly etched now deep w/in my memory bank…
but one thing–one mundane question–what happened to Jack? my first thought because i’ve had to have buried several large animal. a mule, two llamas, a horse. something i didn’t think about before they came to be in my sphere of being.

I am loving this post … the pictures of beloved children and animals and flowers … the words added by this community of readers you have drawn together … I started to reply to comments and realized I would be replying to virtually every one, so I stopped and will just say once again how much I appreciate all that is written and shown here.

Jack…well, somehow and i don’t remember exactly how, i found some people who had land down in the valley, grass land. Grazing land.
Jack’s teeth were worn down so from gravel in feed. We made him
oatmeal every morning. He could eat that. But i knew it wasn’t “normal”. so he went to live out his days in that pasture land.
But i think of this, with Gideon. He is a Large Being.

Richness of you deepens as you reveal pieces of the past, and the richness of those irises in their tubers, like the richness of every thing and every being stored at the core. I have an extra happiness today because my brother ‘friended’ me on Face book and there’s a photograph of us very early all looking happy (Mom Dad Me and my brother around 1952). It made me happy in the now…reminded me of that happiness then, and like tubers, it is still mine at the core.
