gone most of the day.  Before i left,

looked at the Magic Diaries Cloth…the tree that is central and that is made of Kantha,  which i suppose isn't Really, Kantha,  it it's pure sense,  but is what i know to be.  And how it worked here to say Tree,  to say Tree as in the Desert Willow,  the meandering branches….i loved stitching this and i love looking at it now

Once home,  i looked at the Wolf Cloth,  ways i can do it,  not easy because of the incongruent shapes of the weave and then the Other,  i never remember the name of it,  the kind of eyelet stuff,  but both need to be there and how can that happen…..so looking.

and then,  from the feed store.  Tonight,  after the Doe Goats have migrated their last migration for the day to the Middle Yard,  i will put this.  with carrots,  lettuce and spinach,  out in the Way Back.  Hopefully,  in the morning,  the little blessed being will be full and ready for a ride.  The plan is for Escondida Lake.  Quite Far and Far enough.  But i'm thinking, as i write that,  maybe Near would be enough and really, more familiar?  Familiar.  Familiar…hmmmm.    I will plug up the hole,  so, maybe Near might be kindest………………

love the tree–the kantha tree. and the trap? well, i hope your experience is better than mine. last year after hauling off 5 groundhogs intent on decimating that huge garden, i finally just said screw it after i trapped a possum that snarled and hissed. i had to put my hands way too close to it when i opened the door for its release. after that i just said oh well and then gave the trap to the woman who bought my house. this year, with deer grazing in the yard, there is no chance of a food garden. but i did start a dyers garden and after several dozen hopi sunflowers came up–maybe about 9 inches, a bunny wiped out all except one. thoughtful of it really. it’s doing fine now and each morning i’m grateful to see it still standing. i don’t seem to be able to resist the critters any more. not quite saying “have at it”–but almost. it’s different though when you’re raising food. can really be heartbreaking. so anyway–good luck.

oh such a lovely impact..opening this post and seeing that green…blue..the moth..and then the tree..viscerally satisfying on some deep level for me..a coming home place
i find it so strange to become aware..in a personal way to be looking at deer resistant things..we built a gated garden space last summer.. but it is really a food plant space ..although i just mix flowers in with wild space taking abandon..i love the combinations and so did the bees….and have protecting wire cages around the new trees..fruit trees..but oh my elder berries..oh well i will learn…we have six regular deer in the meadow..morning and evening ..and i never tire of watching them even as i watch my tree line being trimmed at an incredibly even level…
right now the rain is simply pouring down..and the porch is alive with humming birds..usually they stay on the outside..it is a magical way to start the morning
    gentle day grace
i am still so happy and slightly crazed to have sun..sun..after three decades of a shaded garden…

Years back we had a family of skunks that made a home under our garage…we were able to trap them in the same trap that you have. We got very lucky and got the parents just days apart although sadly we could not get the little ones out. I won’t go into how because it still makes me sad to think about it but we did not let them suffer. Anyway I hope you have success. The tail of the lizard cloth showing in the picture of the trap….would you post a picture of the whole cloth….would love to see all of it.

Here our garden is fenced but we do have lots of cottontails along the scrub and trails. Two of them for some reason like to come to our front yard and rest under the juniper tams.
In TN, we had no fences just wide open fields and lots of rabbits, skunks, not as many deer as when we lived in Texas. The open areas did not stop us from putting up a garden but we did put up a short fence with some plastic netting. I often though that if they wanted to, since the border was not all that high, the rabbits could just jump over it so to that end, I planted a row of lettuce just for them out in the field…well, they not only didn’t bother our garden, they also didn’t partake of their own row of lettuce. I think it’s because they had lots to eat out in the fields. But then as you mentioned, your rabbits have lots to eat outside of your yard so who knows!

The green jewel of night is an island in the river of kantha (I read it as a river before I saw it as a tree), almost shimmering….as attractive to me as light would be to the moth. Very satisfying.
The dispute between gardeners and critters must be as old as gardening itself. We have to cage our gardens here and still little things get in. Good luck with the bunny.

it’s a LIVE trap, Martine. Doesn’t hurt them. Like my mouse live trap.
they just go into it for the food and then you carry them off a bit in
it and open the door and let them loose. I take the mice over by the
ditch bank where there is water flowing and plants and a very old Apricot
Tree. It’s nice there. And they are not in my closet.
the stitching of this was ecstatic.

yes. i remember your last year and all the transport of the
groundhogs. It’s hard to know, isn’t it. The sunflower seeds
here may have been eaten, no sign of them yet, and well….
food is food to whoever eats it.
