not BRIGHT,  but a soft,  almost Solstice sun…feeling more distant,  yet sure and there.

the cradle of Mother Night

DSCN0332v

and how dawn feels so far and takes so long to get to and then  too…Sun does not "full" until late then falls away over the edge soon and Mother Night reigns again….i realize that this is A Day of this 12th month in this hemisphere,  so not equally divided with heat and light….

and how this is such an experiment,  NOT one of the ones that creates its Self,  but me,  experimenting and how there seems to be some scrap collage but also this one,  a lot of stitching with threads…,  the threads really "talking" the story here?????    but how i am just loving using the Inktense to mark the cloth with such a blend of color…just loving watching the pencils mark the cloth and then the wet brush making those marks bleed into each other,  how they can become indistinct,  really,  OR not..how they can remain bold?   Nothing bold yet,  but it could be without the wet brush….

totally satisfying.

and i think about it.  How it's a different marking than plant dye…is that ok?  that it's these pencils?  No sense of an answer yet,  just the Pleasure.

I have much the same questions … where are the lines? I am watching as you trail-blaze and wondering what we will learn from Sharon. The colors and lines look so satisfyingly subtle …

Marking with plants, with rust, with rubbing dirt into cloth, with paint, with these wonderful pencils, what matters, at least to me, is to be one with the doing of it and if you are, then joy quietly comes front and center and continuing flows…
P.S. I watched a program on my local PBS channel last night, the holiday season of Craft in America. Susan Garson, a ceramic artist who makes wonderfully whimsical Menorahs, bird and fish shapes, etc. said that art is craft and craft is art. What came through so clearly is her joy in what she makes and I sense that from many who come here and whose blogs I read. So I don’t think it matters how we make what we make only that we do so from a place of wonder and joy.

I love your journey of discovery unfolding. And always appreciate Marti’s wise words. Making from “a place of wonder and joy.” Absolutely. And Mo’s observation of the blue scrap. Lovely things going on here all around.

i suppose it is not ok if using natural marks is a personal goal. if not and it is just about making marks in general then it can be ok, so it is a question only you can answer for yourself. for me mixing too much media confuses my focus. at least for now. i think i was asking myself some of these questions while musing over “pages” in small journeys. we’ll see where it takes you now.
