the google logo melting…how many of us in this country really care…..?

I spent most of the day stitching.  Nothing much to see because it was Invisible Stitch…the sky, which is almost finished.

the patterned canyon and then the foothills tentatively stitched.  And then…the dark mouth of the Arroyo where the lizards are coming from.  A strand and a half of hair.  More hair needed to show the work of Wind.  Slow Cloth.

In between i went Out and sat,  closing my eyes and Visualizing this Place first,  then moving out slowly,  i went toward the east of this continent because that's the direction i came from, to the ocean then and i Visualized all the places i know about that are divided by this body of water.   I Visualized everyone who writes here and at Jude's,  them,  in their Places.  I did Meta.

Thelma of Mike and Thelma the now defunct Native Plant Nursery,  brought me three one gallon pot trees.  2 Vitex or Chaste Trees and a third which they think is a pear.  I had asked a while back if they had any trees or large bush beings left.   At the time they said no,  but here they are today.  The pear….i'm not sure about.  I'll plant it but i will choose to do nothing that people do to save fruit from insects.  The two Vitex… i have one out in the Middle Oasis.  They grow well,  require next to nothing and bloom all summer if you clip off the dried blooms…Purple…for Prince i'm thinking….and BEES LOVE LOVE LOVE them.    I want to put one of the Vitex right out from the front porch in what used to be a place i grew various things but now is a runway of Tay's.  She wouldn't understand any plants,  but a small tree/bush she will go around.  And it will provide late afternoon shade for the chairs under the Old Apricot in case i ever fix them.

the third pound cake.   It's not really this shape.  But the collapsed center,  yes.  Better today than last time but still, collapsed.  I was thinking that i could pretend that this is on purpose,  and use the dented middle as a kind of Bowl for fruit?…the juice would seep all around the sides?  eee.   I have decided that it must be that twice now i have substituted fresh lemon juice,  2 T for 2 Ts of the milk.  I like the hint of lemon.  But maybe i will get lemon extract. Keep the milk it's correct amount.  Substitute the lemon extract for the vanilla.

This time i baked it in the toaster oven.  It's a Good toaster oven,  Breville,  convection oven, so it's not that and it has a glass door so i could watch what was happening.  Halfway through the baking time it looked all great and like it should but then suddenly….  But it will taste fine and work to maintain the new layer of fat i am acquiring which is the POINT.

Something with the doe Goats today.  They RAN.  They RAN back and forth Front to Back down the Migrational Coorider like they were being chased by a Cheetah.  There is an overturned metal horse water trough just at the end of the Cooridor to the Midde Yard that acts as a Drum when they gallop over it…..all day.  They jumped and twirled,  they head butted but so softly it was funny to watch,  the rising up on hind legs,  coming down to barely touch foreheads….barely touch…but they were so Involved in whatever it was….actually, it's still going on…almost dusk…and they continue.

it's 7:16.  Supposed to storm tonight.    After a couple or a few mouseless months,  i hear that clatter in the Tin Cat of someone trying to get out.  Will give him/her a ride to the ditch bank in the morning.  And that's it for Earth Day,  2016

8:09 p.m.  GREAT Thunder….rolling down from the Rim

A single day for Earth Day, activities planned in various places, at the co-op, at a park , libraries this weekend but sigh…one day, what about the other 364?
Last night on the eve of Earth Day we decided that with rain coming it was the right time to plant our tomato seedlings grown from tomato seeds that I had saved from last year’s crop. We also planted chile peppers and jalapenos but we had purchased those seeds. Planting seedlings from saved seeds and putting my hands in the dirt last night felt good and just right.
This morning at daybreak, as I sat outside waiting for sunrise, drinking green tea, I breathed in and thought of how in the past six years, since I started naturally dyeing, the earth has given me so many treasures and blessings. I thought of the little grapevine wreath I created our first year here because of our joy in finding ourselves with a grape arbor. My husband Rich turns our grapes into wine, we both make raisins and I use the grapevines for wreaths and as holders for my cloth collages. My little grapevine wreath has had a starring role in my Winter Solstice/Christmas decorations because I always attach red chiles that I have grown and dried as well as sprigs from our juniper bushes.
Daily rituals have been a part of my life for many years but sometimes, the day just gets away from me, but not today. This morning I felt the need to do one to honor our Mother Earth. Thinking about the little grapevine wreath, I took it out of my holiday box, took out cloth that I had dyed with the gifts from the Earth and as the sun rose, I ripped strips of assorted dyed cloth. Tied them around the little wreath and hung it on the back brick wall that separates our home from the trail behind our house. This trail is filled with Desert Willow, 4 wing salt bush, wild grasses, wild flowers, rocks, lizards, bugs, birds etc.
Later at dusk, the winds picked up, rain came down lightly and the cloth strips swayed in a dance of honor and homage to our first mother, Mother Earth and I found myself saying out loud, Thank You…

A great big many faceted wonderful day at your place.
    Life has loveliness to sell
    All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,,
    And children’s faces looking up,
    Holding wonder like a cup.
    Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
eyes that love you, arms to hold,
And for your spirits still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.
Spend all you have for loveliness,
    Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be

yes…what else Could it be?…..a kind of sad smile to think
of a day’s worth of Understanding that…we, humanity, are
really a piece of work, aren’t we.
and i look at it too…of course, all day because of the
stitching going on, and off and on i think…how stark, how
plain, and that Information monkey says…well, add a little
“interest”..you know, how people say that…i added a little
interest with this color, stitch, particular scrap, and i
take it over and pin it to the wall and think…?????? should
I? But always the answer is no…it is what it is and this is how it is. When i take them to Magdalena next friday i’ll take
the camera and more pics of the drive. Have a lot already
somewhere in the Picasa place, but takes too long for me to
find them. New ones, anyway, with this Cloth in mind

Her face is wonderful, watching everything. Maybe even watching from within the earth. That’s similar to something I’m working on right now! Seeing how your work develops from the beginning is refreshing.
About the pound cake, and if you don’t need to see this just ignore it… 😉
If you melt the butter instead of softening it, that can cause problems. Oil will make it heavier than shortening or butter. I whip it for a while with the sugar, then the eggs (at room temperature), so it’s super light. As far as I know, there’s sugar in real lemon juice, but not in extract… but adding a little shouldn’t be a problem! Baking it slowly (1.5 hrs or so) at 300* vs faster at 350* can help.
Your idea of adding fruit to the middle like a bowl sound irresistible, and it’s something I want to try.

Hello grace, I’ve just been catching up with you and have a suggestion for the cake. Keep the milk, but grate, very finely, some lemon rind into your pound cake mix. You will get a wonderful lemon fragrance, better & more intense than using juice, but it will not affect the texture and the rising of your pound cake at all.Love the crow and lizard cloth!
