that oh so Beauty Full little bean from the other day?   This morning.  A stump.  There is part of a single leaf remaining,  meaning it's is possible that it will be able to just go….but probably not.

there was one more but i guess i deleted it.  So…these remain and i'm trying to call forth all the Findhorn Point of View about sharing.  I'm pretty certain it's the sow bugs that do a magnificant job of breaking down mulch.  There are Zillions Out There.  Literally,  and if i knew a word that is MORE than Zillions i would say that with confidence.  Anywhere there is moisture,  they thrive.  So….Will they share?  Tomorrow i'll put in some new seeds.  Try again.   I REALLY want beans.

the shelling peas,  with no mulch yet, are doing fine.

ah slater beetles or we called them roly-polys when we were kids, here’s a link, try to keep the mulch away from the base of the seedlings by a hands breadth all around when they are still soft and tender

every seedling gets snipped off here, mostly by birds. I keep them covered with old plastic cups and plastic bottle bottoms halves that I found over the years, holes poked in them. till they get the second set of leaves. that seems to work.

Good tip Jude…and M’s LINK about sow bugs is right on if you mean to have a healthy crop…worth the effort.

I’ve put chickenwire over my most precious seedlings. Not for birds but for my cat. She wouldn’t leave my beloved bears garlic alone……..
