i thought about this all day.  I wanted to be SURE it was true before i said it.  So i thought.  It's true.

Of ALL i have done in my life,  this is what i feel most accomplished about.    When i came here,  there was sand.  Over all the years i have year by year brought  amendments.   in the beginning and then i guess for the first 10 years pretty much,  it was small stuff.   But it added up.  Worms did show up…flourished.  Food compost mattered.  All the buckets of horse manure i would haul home.  Added up.  And then,  over the last 3 years…the Goats have given.  Given manure and scrap feed and today as i planted….it was exhilarating,  nothing less.  That's not an exaggeration.  Exhilarating.  The experience of pushing aside the mulch of scrap feed,  exposing moist

soil

black

i lifted it to my nose and breathed it in and felt a Joy that was beyond Joy.  Soil.  that word again,  Fecund.

i watched the zillions of sow bugs scatter,  thought how diligent they are in their work and thanked them.  I wished i had a microscope or whatever it is now that they use to note the micro organisms in any one inch of soil….i know there are Many here.

and This.  Above All Else.  and i have done it My SELF.   This……i have done.

me.  grace Forrest     grace Maestas   grace Forrest~Maestas   me,  grace,    …..    i did this.

and i am proud.

i was brought up to understand that being Proud was not good.  even,  sinfull.   But     I am Proud.   I'll take my chances with Pride.

Great achievements should be expressed with pride. I also garden on sandy soil so know it is a challenge to do what you have done. I think pride is only bad if you feel it puts you above others, that you feel better than them and I don’t see that happening in your case Grace.

An oasis in a desert…silly generation that would see pride as a bad thing. Nice that you feel as proud as proud can be.

This slow soil build-up from sand reminds me so much of the story of Findhorn. I’m sure the devas are thanking you. You have every right to be proud.

I have to say i know this feeling. When we moved here we battled clay, ugh. now we have nice growing plots and the earth is easy to turn. we cut down on what we are growing this year but are keeping the plots fed and cared for.
I love this amazing Earth we all live on.

When I read this I thought that making soil, making an Eden is right up there with having children.

i thought about that….having children, “making” children,
but with children, they come with their own agency. They
Arrive, ready, equipped to become who they become. Birthing them is to assist them in their becoming.
    I thought about that.
this, tho, this is less and also more. The land would have been what it was without need. It grew it’s 3 weeds modestly and well enough. It lay gently, under the Sun. Quiet and plain. After i leave here, if no one comes to continue, it will go back, revert to quiet and plain. But it responded to my dream with such Willingness….we gave…me, the land, slow, over time
