Mary Rose Pino 's   Santos and devotional figures

i'm trying to think of how best to tell this.

As usual,  there was not a crush of people.  Dear Magdalena.  But a steady flow.   At any given time there were maybe 4 at the most people in this space.  They come in the door.   The place is to themselves…Danielle most of the time next door in the Cafe.   So it's quiet and peaceful.  You just walk around and look.  The Cafe is connected to this gallery by a short passage way through the kitchen.  The Cafe is large with heavy carved wood booths and a bar with stools.  There's a stage area in the back where entertainment used to happen.  A coffee house.   She's given up the restaurant thing…she had GREAT GREAT food,  and now has coffee and desserts.  So you come in…..can hear voices from through the passage.  Otherwise,  it's quiet.  There are two chairs in the center area.  I sat in one sometimes.  Just watching people,  petting one or both of Danielle's dogs.  Watched how people cruised,  looking.  Watched how sometimes they stopped to look at the Cloths,  some of them reading that blurb there.   I didn't talk to anyone.  There was no sense of any one wanting to be talked to.   So i watched.  She has a lot of very FINE silver and stone native crafted jewelry.  People spend the most time with that.

I came and went,  wandering around town to the other shops and studio spaces,  listening, mostly.  I get really quiet.   I'll go back tomorrow and maybe not be so quiet.

I brought Audrie,  of the Socorro Women's Writing Group from the library.  4 of them are self published and so brought their books to the Library there which is a whole story in its self,  again,  maybe tomorrow,  but anyway,  she and i went there first to drop off all her books…they weren't on the schedule till 1 oclock and while i was waiting i looked down in the magazine give away shelves and

i asked how many i might take without seeming gluttonous,  without embarassing myself or Audrie,  and Old Librarian Lucy's granddaughter,  the New librarian said  PLEASE!!!!!  TAKE THEM ALL!!!  i scored 16  Cook's Illustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I can't believe my LUCK!   I LOVE these…how many publications have pencil illustrations of Everything????????????   eeeeeeeeeeeeee.

at the consignment shop.   some one made this.   I love it.   Some one made this sometime,  long ago,  to me,  it's like handwriting that is becoming extinct

and at some point,  like i do,  i just ran out of steam and got in the car and drove home.   I'd had a conversation with a woman about dogs and she said she wouldn't have a Catahoula because they  are agressive and pig headed.  Need too much or they become trouble and i returned home to

Tay

who waited so well and patiently,   who is the Greatest of all dogs though i know she COULD become agressive if not respected,  and so home to Tay,  to things to be done here,  all the giving of water to the plant people.  I dumped the buck  Goats water tubs and scrubbed them with vinegar and filled them with clear clean water and pulled Kochia and flung it and all these things,  after this day AWAY into another kind of world,  all these things seemed so so Beauty Full and Grand

and maybe that's what it is all

FOR

?????????

being away from home brings more appreciation.. and love of it. and it seems the older you get the smaller that space needs to be..time and place. beautiful gallery..and the cloths fit so perfectly in that space. they look really good.

Your cloths look just great in that space…I double clicked like crazy, and the shop is warm and very beautiful. How nice to have a quiet day observing and looking around. Super hand made scoop, and all those cook books! A fine fine day. Hugs to Tay,
    tazmeena and goat people.

The gallery is mellow and inviting and the art feels organic and of place. Your cloths wonderfully fit the space and those against the burnt umber wall especially glow. I wish I could have read more clearly your words re slow cloth. When I enlarged the photo, the words were still blurry but it could also be my old, tired eyes…maybe today, there will be conversation.
Cooks magazine is truly a score; it is one of the first magazines we pick out at the free stall in our library as well as purchase at thrift stores. Sometimes we also watch the TV program that is affiliated with the magazine on our local PBS station.

Your work fits right in and I hope the descriptions were in your own handwriting, which is one of my favorite things about you. your writing is strong and well done and authoritative, like a teacher’s comment on a term paper.

I think the cloths stand out yet balance the arts and crafts aspect of this space. Shop. That is, what we expect to see representing the New Mexico scene vs what might spring from living there. I love cook’s illustrated. And that basket thing that someone made.

it IS interesting to see the Cloths there…unexpectedly There
    amidst the rest
The beauty is that everything there was made by human hands
I anticipate going through them, the cook’s….i’ll begin
tomorrow morning and the basket strainer thing, is just
    elegant and made with such
    care
