I just read this line in “Beyond Belief” by Hugh Mackay;
“… In fact, if you think of life as a series of accidents that happen to essentially non-rational creatures, the human condition might make more sense to you.” (p40)
and this poem by Mary Oliver posted recently in Robyn Gordon of Art Propelled’s curated daily inspiration of words and pictures over on Facebook;
“There are things you can’t reach. But
You can reach out to them, and all day long.
The wind, the bird flying away. The idea of god.
And it can keep you busy as anything else, and happier.
I look; morning to night I am never done with looking.
Looking I mean not just standing around, but standing around
As though with your arms open.”
― Mary Oliver
and you do this (((Grace))) you look with your heart wide open at the world

We are each sitting at the center of an ever widening circle. We hear the news, turn toward each other, and the circle opens to include beings we may never meet, children we can’t comfort, weeping widows, the weary wounded and the dead. A river runs through our hearts. We are water flowing through the wide world web, connecting all that is true, darkness and light, grief and delight. So be it.

we are widening our worlds as best we can
opening our hearts more and more
seeing a new way of things being created
filling with more love each day
offering what we know to others, hoping it will help in their struggles.
figuring out new ways to do things and holding on to those that work well and don’t need changing.
finding our true selves, and true lives on our own and with others help.
we are the ones that discover and make our lives what we need
finding most things we were taught is definitely not true and tossing it aside in order to live honest lives.
living from the open heart.
much love to everyone and you Dear Grace

I’m on Facebook in order to see pictures of friends and family, to keep up with their joys and sorrows. Increasingly, however, it has become a place for posting views of the world that are, more often than not, biased. Certainly I sometimes agree with those biases, but they often are accompanied by hateful, contrary comments. So I’ve said “enough” by posting that I will no longer share or comment on Internet memes … rather, I will hide them from view.
It’s not going to change the world, but if even one person thinks twice about what they are posting as a result, then it will perhaps lead to more civil discourse.
We each do what we can.

we are being called to stand for what we believe. to mourn. For me, part of this process is to find a way toward optimism. Working with this new idea (not mine): that it takes moral fortitude to have optimism.
and here, Grace, on this blog, there is such a forum and you are already inviting, talking, asking the hard questions.

what i really meant was…on a global level….including all those
who are so wounded that they would be willing to strap on bombs
to their bodies and walk in to unsuspecting gatherings of people.
on this blog and yours and really, all the blogs in “our” world.,
i believe we share a common concern and common ethics.
I want to talk to people who view me as Enemy….
