the Walnut Vat is

strong.

just a short time,  like 15 minutes it's very Dark in the muslin.   Wrapping give no marks, really,  what does is dip and crumple,  lie in the dry copper or aluminum pot to air dry.  The above.  Doesn't wash out.

it's a kind of grey vague brown grey.   What kind of color is this?  Why is it so appealing?  What is it saying to me?

tomorrow i'll do more.  each of the pieces above have many stories in them.  To sit and look and listen.

Carrying rocks to SnowBunny's grave,  one by one.  They're heavy.

a small candle lit for a large Planet

the other day i said something like…i already have this Moon cloth,  why would i make more?  Something like that,  and since then  in the middle of the night i go out and there is Moon so silently still, there,  where it has been since my birth,  there….so still but slowly moving toward the Rim and i am so sorry i said that.  I don't know why i did,  i guess out of some kind of grief i can't identify,  but Moon asks that question…Why did you say that?   Why would you not make Me over and over and over the same as i have come every night of your lifetime

Oh Grace….your pieces of cloth are wonderful. Such richness in color from something so simple. Just saw some amazing dying done with marigold on a blog a few days back. Like the colors of the trees up and down my street. So many changes…change with every new moon.

Dip … crumple … dry in a copper pot. I will try thus because the cloth you have created speaks volumes …

Ah, how clear you are this morning as I read and look> It’s all so very lovely> the cloths are spectacular>lots to work with here> and thee with those heavy rocks completing the grave…my heart…I’ve done this with my Massachusetts friend when the dog of her childhood died years ago, and we wept, she for the dog and me for her. I got chilled remembering, but that small candle was so beautiful it warmed me all over to see. As for your New Mexico moon, she who absorbs and reflects light as we orbit and spin around her, she cares not, nor does she hear when we call out in our longing or grief, but we here…we friends…we hear and recognize everything. I love you dear Grace.

Things move through us…decisions, thoughts. I gathered a bag of walnuts on Tuesday, will dye with them this weekend. Thinking of you as I read Landmarks by Robert MacFarlane….the sense of place you share through your words. How you make a corner of the world that is so different from mine come alive. Thank you for that.

I gathered walnuts yesterday, a big bag. They are waiting to be separated from their skins outside, near where I last performed this task. That was in late September and the pavement is still DARK brown. I love it. I wonder how long it will stay.
Today I’m going to write about my fabric moons.
I left many animal friends behind in my last town, some living, many now gone. It was hard to leave the buried ones behind, but it was a rental and I had no choice. I think about them there sometimes, but really they’re in my heart. It’s always a hard thing to get through the feelings when one goes, takes time. I love that each of them was with me, they all meant so much.

always receive astrology with such Gratitude…
    how things can be explained….
even when the explanation is “nothing’s for certain”, yet
IS an explanation and validation of our own experience..
yes. Exhale. yes. nothing’s for certain
    There is comfort in that.
