all while cleaning, splitting wood, making pie crust, i am
    remembering.
Remembering those days when we worked together, when we would
    PARTY on weekends…
how then there was a big dining room and the old oak table
that my grandfather made, oval and both sides folded down
and we would fold them down and push it against the window
wall. On the opposite side of the dining room was an upright
piano. And Jenny, my daughter would put a blanket on the floor
under the piano bench and lie there, watching all that went on
and the time there was a wine pouring contest in the kitchen
    ….a swamp…
the music was loud and we were too. But in such a totally
happy way. We were sure of who we were. We were sure of so many things.

i think i will put a plate at the table for Janie tomorrow.
    and you too.
Happy loud is SOMETHING. I’m thinking….did my kids get a
chance for Happy Loud? i don’t think so. And maybe that’s
ok, because then you don’t have it to compare things to ????
We were so ….what. We were so i guess that word SURE.
    We were so SURE.
I’m getting up EARLY tomorrow to make the stuffing. There’s
a Turkey. it will be a Thanksgiving.
SO MUCH here to look in the face of

You’ve a lot of Thanksgiving laid out and golly it’s fun to watch. YAYAYAY!

You have said in the past that Thanksgiving is not something you celebrate because of how it came to pass, re the first Americans, the Native people and I get that. I love that you are having this time of Thanks and Giving today, with your dear friend because those words taken apart, thanks and giving hold such meaning for our past, our present and our future.
It was a special privilege to meet singer, artist and author Alicia Bay Laurel when we lived in Maui (in fact, she officiated at my daughter Erika’s wedding and our small, loving ceremony was held in her home on the big island of Hawaii.) Alicia preferred calling Thanksgiving, this time of togetherness and breaking bread as the Festival of Gratitude and that is especially fitting it seems to me for you and Chloe this weekend. Sending joy to you both and I do hope that you will get out your Scottish metal drum, maybe adorn yourselves in some of your cloth and dance around your land in celebration.

oh yummy & I bet you have the best recipe!
I attempted my Mom’s recipe* about 10 years ago, got the very full pie pan into the oven then realized after 5 minutes that I had forgotten the molasses, so I tried to get the by then very hot pie out of the oven to add the tablespoon of molasses and dropped it… amazing how far runny pie filling can travel… haven’t tried again
*she is a very good cook, to say I’m not is an understatement

Holding on to the picture of two old friends, from far away, coming together now…the crones with knowledge of life flowing through the two of you as you share, feast on the beautiful cloth all around, the home of welcoming energy and delicious food. Giving your heart felt thanks for times shared, times apart…friendship. That is how the celebratory visit feels to me.
Enjoy, enjoy, wrap yourselves in the love of long-time friendship.
Everything is so spiffy and shining and welcoming in your home.
