she arrived just before noon Saturday.

the conversation….Flow.  No effort .  Stream of Consciousness,  circling around,  back,  around,  through and back,  around and through.  Steady.  Even.   No effort.

And though we were not able to find any "comfort",  this we know:

Who we were is who we are.  Who we used to be has held and has become today.  and this was good.

and Dana,  i DID take the pot away…was just dishing out the mashed potatoes.

it didn't get as brown as i wanted it to but we were hungry and didn't wait.  I gave half of it to neighbor Margie, her son and his kids today.

squash.  greenbean french fried onion casserole.  a TON of stuffing.  salad.   like it goes,  too much.

Sunday, yesterday,  we drove out to the Festival of the Cranes.  In the tent of the Office of Archaeological Studies,  Museum of New Mexico,  there was an incredibly fine woman demonstrating spinning yucca cord for basket making.  We spent a Long time with her.  Chloe is a basketmaker and they had a lot to exchange.  We saw the skeleton    of the Sand Hill crane that i love.  There was a demonstration of pottery making.   Many bone tools…one of which the woman used to prepare the yucca leaf.

We drove the loops through the refuge,  S L O W,  so so slow.  Stopping many times.  A lot of time just staring into the distance.  In silence.  The old huge cottonwoods are golden and their leaves shake like rattles.

and i knew she said she would need to leave today.  But somehow i imagined that to be in the afternoon or evening.  I didn't ask,  she didn't say.  So i imagined spending time today taking pics with the Goats and Tay.  But she was up at 5 am and ready to go by 6.  Not quite light.

Yum caring and sharing. Nice. Does the dragon plate have a story? My grandma used to work in a restaurant in minneapolis that served on some like it.

Your dinner looks delicious and your table full of life and companionship…I laughed out loud at your comment about the pot. I’m so glad you and Chloe re-connected, and what better medium for that than the table?

Efficient description…the fabulous feast (love the detail neighborhood sharing in it after and of which plate for whom)…the lovely trip round the Festival. Full after so much preparation. Then it was over.
Did you find that the silence after such a renewed connection was larger than silence was before? My Massachusetts friend was here this afternoon for several hours having a dance event to attend in the evening and we both went in different directions at 5PM. I went to my writing group and we wrote surprising things, then visited the old poet across the street for a snack and a favorite Masterpiece theater. When I returned several hours later I could still feel her presence.

Flow, a good word for how it was after so many years. Sometimes it is like that, years melt away, talk resumes as if yesterday. I have always loved round tables and yours especially. Your table, abundant with the caring and comfort of good food, a well rounded togetherness of body, soul and heart.

At last time to read about the visit…beautiful food, comfortable environment..love the stories of the dishes…a visit to the sanctuary – what a perfect environment for shared time..quiet time, observing time, breathing in time.
An early departure…whew..unexpected…left you with a day to bask in memory thoughts..feeling of shared time..all good. I love that you share your extra food with neighbors..all good stuff.
