i read.    Healing with Form, Energy and Light  ……. the 5 elements  in Tibetan Shamanism, Tantra and Dzogchen      Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche

the 5 elements being:  Fire   Water   Earth   Air   and Space

"Many cultures that live close to the earth develop an appreciation for the spiritual dimension of the natural elements.  They recognize that the elements are not only raw materials…they are also an environment in which deities and higher and lower spirits  abide.  There are sentient beings living in each element.

In the level of the teachings that I'm calling shamanic,  the forces that affect us are taken to be outside of us rather than in our bodies or minds.  According to shamanism,  the forces of nature are alive;  spirits reside in the rivers, trees, rocks, mountains, waterfalls, fires, planets, sky, valleys, caves and so on.  These spirits are related to the five external elements in the way that our internal experience is related to our bodies.  Whatever our philosophy,  we normally experience ourselves as residing "in" our bodies.  Similarly,  lakes, trees, and rocks are bodies in which spirits reside.  In shamanism  these entities are not thought to be mental projections or of questionable reality.  They are autonomous and self directed.  Those non physical beings with whom we have contact can be neutral toward us or  they can obstruct us or support us."

in the midst of the reading,  i took this one down off the wall and without any thinking, CUT a hole in it.  That's all i know.  It has a hole.

and then at dusk,  Alyssia mailed and said LOOK….

a place to stand on

they have prevailed.  they have prevailed.

they STOOD on the place to stand on and they drummed and sang,  they sang in the old way on this old Earth.

Standing Rock.   Maybe a Seed to show us the Way as we go forward into the confusion.

I am on my knees grateful for those First People who STOOD.  They will carry ALL our children forward.  All of us.  I am deeply grateful to them.   Their voices Ring out…i can hear them here.

The Army Corps of Engineers has decided to deny a permit for the construction of a key section of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
The decision essentially halts the construction on the 1,172-mile oil pipeline about half a mile south of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The decision is also a victory for the thousands of demonstrators across the country who flocked to North Dakota in protest.
“Our prayers have been answered,” National Congress of American Indians President Brian Cladoosby said in a statement. “This isn’t over, but it is enormously good news. All tribal peoples have prayed from the beginning for a peaceful solution, and this puts us back on track.”
Jo-Ellen Darcy, the Army’s assistant secretary for civil works, said after talking with tribal officials and hearing their concerns that the pipeline could affect the drinking water, it became “clear that there’s more work to do.”
“The best way to complete that work responsibly and expeditiously is to explore alternate routes for the pipeline crossing,” Darcy said in a statement.
The Army Corps says it intends to issue an Environmental Impact Statement with “full public input and analysis.”
At the site of the protests, the news spread in excited whispers and statements of disbelief. Finally, one man at Camp Oceti Sakowin finally yelled it: “The easement has been denied!”
Cheers and whoops erupted from the crowd nearby and continued for hours, as different parts of the sprawling camp heard about the federal government’s decision.
For Tom Shaving, of the Cheyenne River tribe, the news was exciting and a welcome relief. He has been camping in protest of the pipeline since August, watching his group of “water protectors” grow from dozens of people on the banks of the Cannon Ball River to a settlement of thousands.

“Water is life”, life is standing up for what matters. The world watched and connected;some exceptional reporting from England’s The Guardian newspaper, from Amy Goodman of Democracy Now who bore witness, was charged with trespassing(the charges were dropped.) AND even though my joy is offset by a gnawing worry about the Trump administration and their ability to stop this rightful and momentous result, my gratitude for the strength, courage and wisdom of all those who stood together overflows…

Love these words Grace, why so many people think that humans are the only entity to have spirit and feelings I do not understand. I don’t wish to upset anybody but it seems to me that God has a lot to answer for what did he say:
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
We should share the earth and respect animate and apparently inanimate beings, not have dominion over them.
Saying that I am in no way perfect, I eat meat, I prune trees and shrubs and dig up plants, though I do always talk to them first. Not the animals unfortunately but I do try and eat meat from animals that have had a reasonable if short life.

but that step has been made…their footpalms strong on
this Earth. Earth feels this. I am sure of that.

yes. as a child, being brought up on those words, i felt
something very false in them. I had nothing to go on, but
they did not seem true at all.
they were not true at all down by the creek where i was able to
find myself under the huge willow, reflected in the slow flow
    of the water.
Everything eats. that’s the truth. We are here for Each Other.
