this is a piece of Deb Lacativa's damask.   It came in some that i'd bought quite a long time ago.  I have passed it by,  many times.  Too pink.  Too pastel.  too……

Right now,  i LOVE it.  I could stand and look at it all day long.  Then get up and do it again.  and well, i have.  Done just that.

and the rust marked one.  Together.   How they

compliment

each other.  or, as my daughter used to say when she was little…"theirchothers".

how there is just no need to ADD anything….that they stand,  perfect,  as is.  Each.  And also together.

and if i stitched the Goat/Crow/Toad cloth  ….to…  the "soft morning sky" cloth…how it would take something From the softmorningsky cloth…some would be Covered and i don't want it covered.

and i thought about how this has come up a few times lately.  How i wish that the cloths i make would be for holding.  Like maybe just laid up against the back of a chair or something and just there,  and taken in the hands now and then.  more that,  than on a wall…because then they could be their Both Sides.   their complete selves.

this is the way Wendy's children are with Cloths.  They take them up or down and hold them….they WORK with the cloths this way.  The cloths work with them this way.  it's an exchange,  a conversation,  a giving and a receiving,  often without words,  but Exchange.   a flow,  back and forth of some kind of language that is so full of beauty and is so life giving…each to each.

A correction.  It wasn't Linda who talked of the Unforseen,  it was Beth.  on 7-5-2017 post.

this is one of many photographs that a local photographer took.  I study it.  more than the more dramatic ones of the inferno.  This is how the Dragon eats.  Underbrush.  Many of the trees on the Hill have seen fire before.  Someone said 15 years ago.  Might be true.  But for sure,  many of the older trees.   To understand Fire.   If we are fortunate enough to slide under this,  this time.  There is so much to learn.  Fire is a force of nature in mountains and foothills of those mountains.   to Learn.

it's all about Learning.  isn't that something?  all about Learning.  Almost like not leaving food  around for bears.  Not leaving food around for the Dragon.  We talked about this.  About NOT being into "Clearing" the Hill.  We can't.   it would be against what the Hill means to us.   but we can become very quiet and thoughtfull about clearing the downed wood,  the underbrush.   The underbrush,  this is work for the Goats

removing ladder fuel … the brush that enables fire to reach up into the tree tops. It is an ongoing challenge

Fire is good, they say…. The oldtimers here burn annually. It helps preserve habitat for native plants and animals.I myself fear fire, and have been watching your fire maps, and, well, fire is good. Also good is that you’re not there, safe at a distance. I’ll also be studying up on fire safety zones.
And yes, Alyssia, this does feel Biblical.
And I love the pastel cloth!

re reducing ground fuel, some ground fuel can be good as the fire moves quickly and quite cool, when our 100 acres was used as a backburn for a massive front back in the 80’s, we thought it would help that the gully in front of our house had been accidentally burned 3 months earlier by my then partner’s 13 year old son, we put that fire out easy enough because we had a mown fire break & a fire retardant hedge but when the big fire came there was no ground fuel, the fire had nowhere else to go but up into the trees so it became a canopy fire and much more difficult to control, we did eventually put it all out, it was a huge lesson.

THIS. THIS. so Great, so Great thing to factor in to the Knowing…just great.

“when there was no ground fuel, the fire had no where else to go

We too live in Fire land. And as Mo says, Fire wants a place to go. In creating safe zones around homes, think of Fire as a liquid, a fluid. It wants to flow, so allow vegetation for it to move fluidly and safely, steering it around your structures.
welcome to Fire country, a mighty element.

Fire. Evacuation. Goats. It’s frightening. And Yes, the unforeseen. You often give me things that I mull over for a long time.
And another seed of connection making me smile. I tried the zucchini butter yesterday. It is very good. I just thanked Deb and came here to see you mention it. Deep love for this community.

oh…Hey, hermosa….thank you for your Welcome. We are
    ready to learn.
    i like that…as liquid…it’s how it is, isn’t it…flow
we will study it all and do what makes sense. Thing is, in the
moment, that there has Never been anyone living there before.*
    So we begin from scratch.
*well…the Native People. but their Way, so different….

it almost increases the liklihood of successful evacuation
when there are Goats. You remain ready. No room for lazy.
it’s a constant. Monthly you check tire pressure, run through
the bug out Plan. The kids will learn this and participate.
and yes…so much yes. the zucchini butter, Deb and US. isn’t it just quite BeautyFull?????

The fire safe zones I mentioned the other day were learned from the folks from the National Forest Service offices…they gave workshops and showed and explained the steps to take to make sure that the best possible scenario is your experience when faced with a fire, which was always a present danger, every year to some degree. Knowing, preparing gave space for just enjoying living deep in the forests and along the river’s edge. Deb’s cloth is wonderful..and how many stories it can tell.
