there is a small seasonal stream.   Water travels.  I can't say for sure in which direction yet, i think from North to South?  It runs  along the other side of Carefree Way,  the little semi private road that you see in the pic that finally got edited into the last post,  the little road that Emrie's all terraine vehicle is parked on,  that runs along that bottom acre or  two  of the Hill where Alyssia's  house will be….across from "her" meadow.   It sings the sounds that water makes as it travels over rocks and fallen wood,  sounds of small waterfalls  then trickles it's way along.  Down the way it joins the CanalCreek,  a larger  (by comparison)  body of water that was created for run off from Lake Oroville which then travels on into the Feather River.  Coming home from  the drive to Oroville,  to the post office,   it's Olive Highway.  Then turn onto Old Olive Highway , go along, not far,  and looking up to the left,  a forested Hill rises,  all wild from this vantage point,  just Wild.  But upon turning, you find that it holds these 3 campsites.   Those words,  Wild and Domestic are strong within me at this time…   How wild?  and How domestic?   What can domestic mean?  and Not?

Water … running water … oh how perfectly wonderful. And my first thought was, “a rill?” Or maybe a brook. And the rocks .. and the mosses. I’m in love with your land …

I love the sound of running water. Over the rocks.
We used to have a vernal pond on the western side of our house acre. But dry times have made it
disappear. When Riley was a pup he used to swim in it. Ducks would come visit and swim.
Peepers would develop and sing into the night. Each spring I hope it comes back–but we are now in drought conditions and–it won’t come back ever, I think. Riley would love a swim one more time.

From the size of some of those rocks in the seasonal creek, a lot of water can move through when necessary. We have a couple of those creeks on our property as they head to Red Oak Creek, and every time we get a big rain, we put on the slickers and mucky boots and head out toward the lowest area and watch the power of nature. And the next day – just a peaceful little brook. Yours is so beautiful.

GRACE hellloooo… gosh I love that you have a creek. My sister Caroline lived in Grass Valley and not that I was able to visit a lot but often enough that I fell in love with the sights and sounds of it all. When I first visited she lived in Rough and Ready which had a creek .. we would sit for hours on her small porch talking.. catching up on lost time and I always felt like the water of her Creek..happy to be passing through. Her one son lives in Chico and the other in Nevada City. I know that when i feel ready i will make that trip again. Imagine Grace … one day we may get to walk this WonderFull plans together. I would love that!

And can they live together, the wild and domestic? I’m guessing it is very sweet to sit next to that stream…

I can’t believe how excited I am to be learning the land along with you. Today, the names make me swoon: Carefree Way, Olive Highway, Feather River, Canal Creek. Will the creek dry up come summer?

there has been very little rain this winter, so it runs softly but last year when they found the land here, it was
as you say, strong and fast. I love the image of you heading out to witness

no. it remains year round. It comes from Lake Oroville, that dam there, under which is a large fish hatchery. They release water. Sometimes there are fish in it. They don’t stay, but travel to the big river. Always tho, there are crayfish, water striders. It’s a cold creek. even in the heat of the summer

no…no touch of home, no sense of home, or at least, that i feel. What i am is HERE now. Here. but here remains a kind of nebulous thing. Home is just a word for the time being.
