you can kind of understand the slope.  At the upper end of the pic you can see the two lilacs  in their landscape pots.  For Alyssia to decide…where….she gets  back tomorrow.

Most of what has been planted here has come to the apex of it's LifeSpan.  We will make notes of how it's gone and our thoughts about that.   Everything we planted, grew.  Some Well.  Some,  just some.  There is a lot to learn about how we continue to amend the soil.  Some will remain unknown because of that initial  stunning Spring Garden of volunteer wild plants which we will have to assume,  used their fare share of nutrients the virgin soil had to Give.

the other thing is to sit with the thoughts about the fact that we CAN plant and grow Anything.  But we need to think about the reality of what we really want/need.  We have used everything so far.  With the Auto Immune Protocol Diet,  there is endless joy of stir fry greens and we have used them all.  Radish Leaves, pods,  the leaves and Stems of everything else.  I smile,  as i chop.  All the stems that all my life i've sent to the compost.  Now…crunchy additions.

the big failure has been the onions…or leaks?maybe?  anyway…that family…they are still  so spindly.   ??????

we didn't end up planting all the squash seeds.  I still might try.   It remains warm into the end of November.

These,  a few  thoughts.  So many.  it is such an incredible JOY to learn a new Place.

keep adding the organic matter and the soil will come good when the worms start doing the work for you, the PH may need adjusting, a test kit is cheap and very handy to know with virgin ground

Moving right along with reality. Yay. It occurs to me that retaining wall is going to need to be taller.

Started a couple years ago and am loving it. I’m dog sitting for a few more days but will try eating some of those beautiful beet leave. I didn’t know I could eat them … have been eating the peas and spinach. I have the best luck growing garlic.. just used the last Scape in my eggs yesterday. Your lettuce looks really good .. such a wonderful feeling seeing those tiny seeds grow.

Mo might be right–lime is usually needed–organic dolomite if you can find such. Or Rock dust.
Onions take TIME. They go in and are ready in the Fall here in Maine. One year I had too much organic matter and got only radish greens–no root. I didn’t know I could eat them. Good to know.
I like the way the boxes look. And since this is California— go ahead and put more new seeds in– get a second crop. You have plenty of Time for growing.

Just as we eat seasonally, so too we have learned to eat locally. Tomatoes and peaches just can’t stand Texas heat, so we ate them with wild abandon last week when we were on the east coast.
I suspect your local farmers market will be a good indicator of what grows best and when in your new home.

yes…getting a test kit next time am in town.
This first try came out amazingly well…but also, to
take into consideration, it was FULL, every inch, with
the volunteer weed people. Am sure they used up a lot
    of the nutrients.
Will keep adding the Goat/alfalfa scrap compost material.
that will just be ongoing for ever.
Am pretty sure there’s worms already….there were in
the post holes that were dug for fencing…so i’m
pretty sure they are already there, though we have not
dug down…only to whatever seed depth for planting.
