at that Market….we are squatting,  looking at all the plants offered,  and Alyssia,  who has the Best Eye,  said LOOK!  And there,  right before our eyes,  this butterfly,  still wet from the chrysalis attached to the leaf.    This is the Market for the Soul.  That Permaculture person that i mentioned way back when i first got here in December….a big presence at this Market with many many plants,  some vegetables,  but this particular day,  the first day of their Food Cart with a varying menu of locally grown.  Samples today of Wraps and Salsa.   I am in heaven.  It's a small market but a variety….some crafts,  an excellent young couple with herbal remedies,  baked goods.  Eggs.   Incense.

Perfect.

we choose two Moringa treelings from a young woman.   A Tree Collard from the permaculture people.  Next Saturday seems very far away.

It seems impossible  to keep focused on one thing.  Things come up.  This weekend it's working out the plan for the dogs.  Almost always there are extraneous people living at Alyssia's place in Chico,  so someone home with her dog.  Now no one so dog must come.  She barks.   We work to close off the corridor between the Doe forest and the Original two buck forests.  It's about 6 ft wide and very long.  There will be a gate at both ends.  For now,  it will serve to get Tay and Zoey accustomed to each other but as it went along,  we talked about how it would be a great place for milking doe Goats,  for  keeping kidding Does .  So multipurpose in the long run.  And as it went,  there was a decision made to Just Go and breed two or three.   Why not.  and then,  Jenny, who is a very Why NOT person,  said now was the time to let the Does loose….see what would happen.   They had cleared those two original buck forests in a weeks time.   I was inclined to plan this,  but she won out and loose they were,  her calling them up into the forest above and beyond C,  the pellets in the bucket tinkling,  them running FREE,  bites of this, bites of that,  but after a few minutes,  Onday decided to head back down to where we keep the bales of alfalfa  and Caroline decided to go visit the bucks.   After a short period of chaos they all went back through their gate.   We will set up temporary fencing that can be moved as needed.   The brush needs clearing.   and as the conversation went along,  she said maybe we were looking at things the wrong way.  Maybe we should just fence Ourselves in….fence in what we don't want eaten,  like Lilac bushes and vegetable gardens.   Small spaces around each campsite….and just leave all the rest to them.  It was said in humor,  but thinking about it today,  I think….hmmmmmmm.

~ADDENDUM~

I wrote the above in some form last eve but it got lost.  I wrote the above this afternoon,  as i was sitting at B inbetween working on clearing spaces for planting.  and inbetween that,   just resting,  having feelings.   I don't write well, mid day.  Mid day,  i can't get to the place where words are waiting.   So, after this time,  i come back and see that i forgot the title, too.

what i really wanted to say at this moment is that at that Market,  where all three (four with Emrie) of us were,  (Jenny often feels she doesn't have Time to spare) ,  all  of us,  and then feeling the frustration of needing to deviate yet again from any sense of Plan to work through this Dog Corridor,  the need for spontaneity somehow unlocked some seriousness…and allowed for those Why Not moments for the Goats,  for Us…..and how good that feels.  Why Not.  because who knows.  What we for sure have is the one singular particular day.  and we had TWO of them.  and they were fine.

It certainly makes sense in a general way. But how do you keep them from wandering onto other people land or the road or falling into the Creek? You could invest in Invisible Collars and keep them inside the buried electric wire. But they might figure it out. I’d certainly let them clear as much brush as possible.

Good to be open to all the possibilities .. instead of you all controlling the situations .. Looks like the situations are controlling you. It all sounds very challenging. Nice that you can visit the market .. and experience the wonder of nature.

You spent a long time making goat decisions by yourself. Is it fun to work with Jenny and Alyssia? It sounds like the communal process is working well.

we need to CLEAR. this is about FIRE. so we need to.
And they can do a lot….Happily. Joyfully.
the whole perimeter of this place is fenced. A GREAT TASK
but they DID it. The only small area not, is along the
rim of the steep incline down to the canal/creek. I don’t think they would fall in. They have learned HILLness. I actually don’t think they would go there. There is so much that is easier, Goats like easy.
I am understanding Fire. and yes. clear as much as possible.

How wonderful to be a part of a unit that makes and carries out decisions. Other points of view, other capabilities, other ideas. I’m very tired of being in in charge. Alone. I never did it well when it was my turn. Willing now to just let shit happen.

I quite enjoy hearing the voices of all the women on your patch. I think the idea of fencing yourselves in is fantastic. The market…what a joy to have not one but two.
I recently watched a video about a Kansas woman who takes her 75 goats to land people want cleared. In a matter of hours they can completely reduce an overgrown jungle to bare ground and trees. It’s SO impressive.
