that back part,  the green ones,  Granny Smith.   Every year,  for so many,  this time of year is Apple Pie time and i go looking for Granny Smith.   Here's crates of them and no circumstance for baking a pie.  In the FAR upper left of the pic you can see where we are,  the red/copper horse trailer?  Can you see it?

for as much as buck Goats are completely awful beings,  lacking all sensitivities,  being totally self  oriented,  hormonally driven,  0blivious beings,   ……..   Who do we Love here?

His paper says Unknown.  Rescue.   Those are two thick collars on his horns,  presumably someone's idea of a way to manage him?   It's how he was found, how he remains.  You stand in front of him and he positions himself on the fencing and snorts and spits in a  way that he imagines is his most endearing.   Many of the Rescued will remain unclaimed.  Their people finding themselves homeless and without resource for themselves,  unable to imagine care.    I asked and they will go to the Animal Humane,  who will try to find at first foster care until something more longterm is offered.  There is no timeline.  Until is the word.  Until.  They go.  We talk to him everyday,  at least twice.  Sometimes more.  He's a heartbreak.

There are 3 pigs wrapped in blankets tonight.  One,  the one that has been given so much surgery.  But there was no IV tonight, so we take that as Good News.  All lie very still,  quietly snorting.   The two bottled fed lambs.  The female who would not take the bottle.  We see tonight,  took 8 oz.  They have sweaters and a heat lamp.  The alpaca.  was standing.  We offered a peanut in the shell,  but he stood,  blinking.  no.  ok.  we say words of love to the blinking eye.

there is nothing spared.  Whatever is needed is given.  Completely given.  as if for the most beloved.  ALL are the most beloved….Unknown or not.   The most beloved.  UC Davis…3 mobile Vet trucks.  Everything that might be needed.

the young woman who does our line of Goats takes forever to clean their bedding and renew it.  She loves Lucky Star the most.  But all of them.  Her kind and gentle slow slow way..  We ask if she would like us to do it and she says no…she likes getting to know them.  Slow.  Loving.

so today is day what? 4?  The fire is still there,  in some kind of holding pattern,  winds quiet.  Today there is a sense of maybe a long time.  Not just a day or so but some kind of long haul.

It might be a long haul…but a day at a time will do. We are there with you in the virtual and it’s such a gift to be able to post and watch if not hug and hold…The animals are heart rending and I am so touched by your presence with them and the kind volunteers too. Tay Okay? And Tazmeena in Chico? Will they come to you at the fair grounds? Are you able to sleep? Every one is praying and chanting. Love you.

But for the Grace of God…..each volunteer could be the one receiving instead of giving.
Those Vet students will carry these days with them for Life and will be better for it. As will those of us reading your words here. Seeing your pictures.
Each evening on the news we see what has happened. Hard pictures to see and then to come here and see hope. Thank you.

Mr. Name Unknown, Rescued is the sweetest looking crazy goat. I just want to give him a shampoo and brush his hair. He makes me smile just looking at him. I can’t imagine how people and animals could find each other in such conditions.
How cold is it out there? You mentioned down vests and it looks like Emrie has a winter coat on.
I have followed CalFire every day and night and have scouted the maps the updates. It appears the hill is untouched although it looks like the buildings on 162 have been evacuated. The fire seems to be the same as it was two days ago – not spreading. Is anybody (Jenny or Alyssia) allowed to go there to lay eyes on things? So glad you are able to post. So glad you are OK.

When the cruelty and duplicity of the news gets me down I will think of your posts and take heart. Why is the negative side of human behavior so much more attention-getting than the positive? We are capable of great love and compassion as well as selfishness. I am glad that your animal family is receiving care and love and I hope you are too. I think of you many times a day.

To bear witness, you on the ground, we here to receive what you can show, what you can tell. You mention someone cleaning out the stalls where your goats are housed. Do you take care of them during the day? Like Jamie I too follow CalFire every day and hope that the return to the Hill will be soon. Rain is supposed to come on Thanksgiving but that is still a week away…Thanks and giving, that pretty much says it all.

I wish I could send you a pie and I wish you could export your equanimity around the world. The animals make the heart ache, but so does the thought of you there, in time suspended. I too wonder: are you warm enough? Is there any way to send you things? For instance I have two extra down vests in the basement. I don’t even know how they came to be in my possession.

they do all the actual work. Have routines they like.
I feed at night and then go sit in the pens with them
off and on. Just being with them. Scratching ears.
    Talking, providing familiarity.
