instead of "later",  i began mending the pillow cover today.   I have had it somewhere on some couch since i lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan….29 years.   There was a store there that sold drapery and upolstery fabric,  really great great stuff,  bolt ends.  I use cushions in both the car and the truck and somehow in the shuffling around this last year,  this pillow was being used on the drivers seat of the car.   After it's trip to the laundromat i saw the frayed threads and brought it in to the house.   One side is faded from use in the car for a year,  the other, the same as it always was.  I love it.  a lot.   So this morning,  as the noise outside ratcheted up,  i mended.   A piece of soft linen on the inside.  All was well, as i started,  but as i ended up getting up and down as the early day went on,  it took on a life of its own.  But i like it.  Running my finger over it,  it is woven and good.  Once i finish,  it will last Forever.

The Visitors.   I'd said they were polite.  Well…that was over,  they made themselves at home  and became   BUCKS.  Snorting,  head butting,  in their case,  horn butting.  Vocalizing to the Does.  Loud.  Really Loud.   And this was not lost on the Does….they found their way to the only part of their forest that meets up with that buck yard directly,  and there they crowded at that far gate,  the Visitors not being able to believe their LUCK….put on more and more of a display.  It was LOUD.  Once Jenny and her man arrived they blocked off that one small space and some semblance of peace came again.  They need to go.  We took pics and posted on the local farm and livestock FB  page and tomorrow or the next day i'll drive to the places up over the valley to ask about them.   It's hard to imagine they came from very far away unless they WERE dropped off.

Julian brought me in my presents.  He was proud of his wrapping  I got a pkg of 3 plain cover stenographers pads…brown cardboard cover…i was ecstatic.  a pic for New Years eve.  and a box of chocolate covered cherries,  a bag with dark chocolate and mint.    Everyone else was outside,  just me and him and he said how he was told how i don't do Christmas.  I said yeah,  i decided not to a while ago.   He wanted to know why.  i realized that i  didn't have a ready answer,  so i said i'd think about it and tell him when i thought enough

Never a dull day .. my goodness. I am so happy you have help with the daily adventures that come your way. It is the children that bring out the spirit of Christmas especially when religious practices do not. Everything is different now .. you’re not just you anymore. Yes you’re in California .. I can’t wait for the new year and all it’s possibilities. Sweet dreams ..

I love the fact that Julian asks questions, and I know you will “teach” your “grands”, and over time they will understand so much more for having you in their lives.

I feel 200 lbs. lighter having gotten through this day. Wasn’t sure I had it in me but it was ok. Now I rushed home to see how the goats are and to see what you had done this day. I will be anxious to know how you answer Julian’s question. The nigerians are beautiful but smaller than I remembered. Yes, that is a wonderful last memory of Cinderella being magical in the sun on the solstice week.

Scouting out where those bucks might belong sounds like an adventure. One I can’t quite imagine. And yes, Julian sounds like a sweetheart and a philosopher. Merry Christmas, Grace.

Christmas is…kind of a difficult thing, It’s such a mixed bag of culture, religion, consumerism, traditions, expectations. It’s been important to me to sort out what I am celebrating and how. Too many bucks seems difficult too. 🙂

Julian! What a gift He is. I start with solstice and sort of celebrate all the way through Into the new year, and in many traditions. I deal with Santa Clause for those who do but I know that the whole of it is about marking the change of light, sinking into Winter knowing Spring is on the way–or more accurately – that we are spinning toward it one day at a time. Hope the visitors origins get demystified and that you are free of that burden soon.
