she is a year and a half old.  In this Rain Time we spend some hours sitting at the table.  She has things she can take from the window Altar.  The two boxes of incense.  3 spools of thread,  a pen with masking tape around it to mark it as hers,  Michelle's little lizards,  the plastic magnifying glass,  the bronze and brass Goat people.  From the window ledge to the left,  3 stones.  These,  every time she's here.  like ritual.  We do different things with them.  There are a lot of things on that window Altar that she can't just take.  She points and asks.  Sometimes ok,  sometimes not.

I'm making this cloth to set on the table infront of us…she sits on my lap,  or next to me on a pile of books.  It's a Wondering Cloth.  We can put things that are not hers,  but mine on it and Wonder about them.  I make up stories.  She listens.  Soon,  she will be able to make up stories too and i will listen.

Curiosity.  To set her loose in a world of Curiosity,  a world where so many things can be true and real.  To feed her imagination.

    Someday she will want a basket of tiny bits of cloth. This is how my grandmother made me a gardener. I went out with her. Watched. Learned.

    This is such a fine way of sharing and learning…stories hold the whole of our world within each of us. Will you give Emrie a cloth of her own? I can just see her searching through those objects that are hers or going outdoors, collecting from the land, taking whatever catches her eye. A movie reel: the two of you, each with her own cloth, moving objects around, back and forth, maybe even placing some on each other’s cloths, telling of the why and where…

    i like that movie….
    yes. i watch for what would be Her cloth, what
    she might connect to…her colors and shapes, beings
    Her “taste” is different than mine
    we will do this slowly. Not sure when it will be time.
    It’s a special kind of cloth, a special kind of looking
    and telling, like a Working Altar Cloth

    I am blessed to have your second altar cloth from back when you first started making these cloths to feed the goats from your raft in the desert;
