when i went to the top gate of B yesterday,  to go In,   through the fence gate so i could hang the Love Pennant,  so i could plant the little pots of spindly Indigo and Madder,  i was not expecting what i found.  Instantly,  there before me was a Fine and Brilliant world of Beings…all reaching UP and so so BEING.   I immediately stopped and looked.

I have been talking about language.  Of finding the way this Place might be communicating…and what I experienced was so different than how i had been able to imagine it.

the Language of this Place,  this Hill,  is that of Being.  So many hundreds of so small plants spoke their Beingness.  As i stood there,  just inside the fence,  i could FEEL it.   A vibration?…that's a word that

can work in the moment…a vibration?,  but it's different than that and i don't know how to speak of it.

but what i felt was a Welcoming.   A welcoming of some kind of sense of WE.    But also an asking to go Slow.  To let go of Knowing and just find what Is.  Everything here on this small hill of the Hill is different than it was the last spring.  How many springs might there be,  to understand anything at all?

and then i hung the Cloth and planted the little peat pots.   Things are patient.

In the beginning, everything feels displayed as if the land is showing us, seasonally, all that is here.Gradually, over time, as we come to know a place, some things are constant: we know that spring will be fresh with wind, summer will be hot, autumn will be glorius, winter will be cold, leaves will fall, buttercups will bloom in the spring (well, except here in the desert), blossoms will appear on trees before leafing, birdsong will awaken us in springt but there is more: the quiet joy and wonder of coming to know a place is that as we sit, squat, look, softly touch, smell, watch, so much more is going on and changes are always present as winds sweep in seeds, as birds drop seeds, as worms and underground dwellers shift and move on the earth, as the elements of wind, rain, snow, change, displace and re-align the land. It is the gift of life, observing, becoming part of the flow, day in and day out, never fully known in one’s lifetime…

Each time we move the soil, open it, turn it-whatever– we give Sun light to the hidden seeds and plants and they grow. All the eating the goats did last year-opened the Earth’s surface there on the Hill to new Life. The digging you did for your dye garden-opened the Earth to new Life. Enjoy. Now you must keep all this New Life from smothering your dye plants.
