just so you don't over anticipate.  Spread out on a tarp.  Looking down,  from where the Diaries Cloth hangs on the fence.  No time today.  So…tomorrow.  The First Look.

legs,  arms.  a little of one foot.   Just this much.  To see if it feels right.  Still looking,  but i think so.

the base is made from plaster gauze casting tape, cut into
very small strips. over a small balloon to create the
convex form of face. draping the ends of the strips
over the fingers to create the wind hair. hold until
dry and then set to dry more. taken off balloon.
Thick liquitex modeling past applied in layers to create
a sense of bones…bridge of nose, chin, brow, just
globbed on, really. Let dry on wood stove or in sun,
    depending on season.
when finally dry, look. begin somewhere, it was almost
always an eye, begin carving. I used my father’s jackknife. Slowly, slowly carving away the amorphous
modeling paste. I never knew “who” was coming..would
    find out as i carved.
i used oil paints with turpentine wash.
i don’t really have photos. At that time i only had
an old camera. Somewhere there’s photographs, a few,
you know, the old paper hold in the hand kind. But
not many. I made many many of these figures. They
are all out there, somewhere in this world.
